Timing Chain/Tensioner?

Hi everyone,

I blindly bought an 2008 1.4 tsi Seat Leon with 63k miles on the clock and full service history 3 months ago during lockdown. I also got 3months of AA warranty.

The car was delivered to me with a dead battery so I called out AA. The call out guy sorted out the battery but noted that there was an horrible rattle noise on start up that could be the chain and that I should get it looked at.
*The rattle sounds like an old diesel truck and only lasts 2/3seconds then is completely fine*

Took my car immediately to a garage for a look over. The mechanic said that the noise was to do with oil pressure on start up and that there's nothing to worry about.

2 months later, I never really stopped worrying so I took it to another garage armed with a video of the rattle noise (because it doesn't do it all the time) and the mechanic said that the chain/tensioner was bad.

I got the garage to give me a quote:

.Timing chain kit with vvt sprocket £487
.Oil filter £14
.Oil £20
.Coolant £6
.Labour (4hrs) £160
Total incl. VAT £825

I rang AA, they told me that the garage needs to call them with the price. My AA warranty literally says that it covers chains and tensioners, however when the garage spoke to AA they told them that the customer would have to pay for strip down and diagnosis (fair enough) and that if it was the chain then they WOULDN'T cover it. If it was the tensioner then they MAY reimburse the customer.

What do you guys think? Is it more likely the chain or tensioner? Would that £825 quote include the tensioner? Is it even worth doing or should I just live with the rattle noise on start up?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers.
