also, leave the car in gear going downhills - the trip computer shows nothing is being used while doing this. also instead of leaving it in neutral coming up to lights leave it in gear until close to stopping (uses no juice until its near chugging)

Isn't coasting in Neutral quite dangerous or a bad thing for the car? I was always taught to stop in gear in my driving lessons and this has always stuck with me.

you have less control in neutral, therefore you are correct that its not good practice to coast in neutral.
But anyway, as said a few times its more fuel efficient to slow down in gear as the engine uses no fuel whereas in neutral and ticking over its surprising how much it does use!

Exactly..... who buys a car like the FR for it's fuel economy....

If you have big pockets you get the petrol, if you like a blast but also like to watch the pennies then you get the diesel.... job done!

Unless you really have money to burn then you get the Cupra

Tdi is the way, only 160 CO2 + remap giving 204bhp / 420kn/m + 37mpg if driven hard and a lot more if driven with a bit more care (usually after you filled up).
Dont know the the 0-60 figs but seems to be fast.

I guess it depends on what you bought the car for and how it will be used.

My miles are a fair split between town driving and long motorway / A road journeys at busy times. So I'm either in traffic or sat behind somebody else doing 70ish mph.

No 'fun' to be had in either of those situations, 105bhp is enough for what I do which gives me around 40mpg round town and has given me upto 57.9mpg on A roads at 60mph (616 miles on a that tank full)

Too true, although i dont have a remap, i will wait for a bit then it will be like getting a new car again!

I used to drive a 2.5l petrol which gives me these comparisons....

0-60 FR TDI slightly quicker as it was Mazda6 hatch, big and heavy!

Round Town - Petrol used to be between 25-27 mpg now i get 40-43

Long Run (200m) - Petrol was at best 32 (just after service) and Diesel 53

Driven hard the trip on the petrol used to say 15 lowest i have ever seen on the FR is 27

So all in all roughly 50% better from a gas guzzler to a top end TDI.... im very happy!

All those (petrol) users who keep saying with the price of Diesel its a false economy, well thats rubbish cos its still only 10% more and you get at LEAST 30% more mph....

I bet if Seat brought out a Cupra TDI then a lot of Cupra owners would be tempted..... as well as TFSI FR owners....
