As the title says I'm super excited to share the news guys!!! I did it!!! I broke my car... driving 27mph down the road casually sun's out just a nice relaxing drive to get my baby valeted... BOOM! Thought I had hit a wall... pulled over looked at passenger side wheel couldn't see any alloy damage or tyre damage... happy days right?

WRONG!!! I continued my drive to nicely find the passenger wheel is knocking or is sounding like a knock over every road imperfection. Fired off possibly an excessive email to kirklees hopefully they will get back to me saying they will pay for any repairs necessary. I will not hold my breath. Just a quick snap of the pothole In a second... but what are people thinking? I rang my cousin (my mechanic) and he said it doesn't sound like a wheel bearing (what I thought) he said he thinks it could be the arb or a bush? Anyone able to impart knowledge? On either the noise or anyone had dealings with kirklees?

Btw it's a standard LCR.

Thanks in advance. Here's the crime scene.

Good luck , but don't hold your breath .
My mrs drove down a pot hole in her old ford and put a hole in the wall bigger then a 50p piece .
I went to extent of putting a coke bottle in the hole to show the depth of the hole . Tape measure etc on the floor , all with photos . The hole was huge ! Over 4inches deep and aprox 400mm square .
Sent a letter and email to my local council along with the receipt for the new tyre and proof I had only replaced that tyre 3weeks before for the mot .
Never heard a bean , although they did circle it with white paint within 2 days of me sending letter and was repaired in another 2 days .
Called and sent another email. Still no comeback .
Council are just c**ks !

Unless it's already been reported, you don't stand a chance, although I'm surprised that you missed seeing it, looks huge

My father in law had a problem like yours. Took photo's went to the council house. Inspector went to the scene. Took receipts to the council house and they paid up.

That was in the last century in stratford upon avon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hit one a couple of years back in my van while towing my jet ski. Unfortunately I had 19" rims with 40 series tyres so not only were two tyres shredded but two of my rims were smashed beyond repair. That was a long wait by the side of the road I remember. Didn't bother pursuing a claim as no doubt they'll only **** you around and then you'll end up empty handed anyway. Sometimes it's unavoidable going through a pothole, especially if you are in traffic and don't see it till late. It's a choice of swerve to avoid and force oncoming traffic out of the way or grit your teeth and prepare for the inevitable.

Keep all the receipts and you should be able to claim the money back from your local council.

A few friends have had this happen and they managed to get there money back.

Could just be our local council though.

Iv been reading up and it's hit and miss whether they pay up apparently... annoyingly I used to have a vw polo decked on coilovers so I'm quite aware of the road keeping my eye out for potholes but i was singing along to Lynyrd Skynryd and probably paying more attention to not clipping parked cars the road is quite big (4 cars side by side easy) and the pothole is in the middle of the road but there was a car parked on the left side kerb and then a car parked again next to that forcing me through a gap for one car I didn't notice the pothole until I had dropped into it. And yeah its massive! I have another picture it doesn't look deep maybe one 2 inch tops but I thought it was gonna have snapped my alloy the way it hit... I was so surprised... then that turned to dread =( all in all a great day I think... Sent them a rather excessive email with pictures attached hopefully they don't ignore it

Received an email today regarding the repairs to the road. Waiting on a reply regarding damages to the car... going to get an estimate tomorrow regarding repairs... hope its something simple as I don't believe the council will pay out a penny =(

Before you start, keep in mind that it isn't always easy to claim for pothole damage. While there are successes, there are sadly many instances where claims are rejected too.In order to claim for the damage, you'll have to prove the pothole caused it - that the repairs you're having to shell out for were specifically caused by your impact with the pothole. Your garage tech should be able to put this in writing for you.

If your vehicle already had a problem, and the pothole made it worse, you can still claim but you won’t get the full repair costs back.
Good luck and don't give up ps sorry I'd someone has already commented similar

I have looked into it for a good 5 minutes before sending off my email hahaa but yeah as I say it's more of I don't mind either way... obviously I'm pissed it's happened but it does give me an excuse to get some new things thrown on the car without having to justify it to anyone =D but if I get money back for it then it's a bonus really I'm not expecting it but for 20 minutes it took me to get pictures evidence and send off the email I thought why not might be worth a punt
