Hi guys, I have a knackered turbo and it's whistling like a tea kettle, I need to know if it is a 3 stud or 4 stud? The car is a 2000 1.9tdi se 110! Thanks!

The 1.9 TDI, 110 bhp engine's code is ASV, which comes with a VNT 15 turbo.
I can't post a image URL until after I had 15 posts, but a quick search for garret vnt15 will show you your turbo.

Thanks for your help mate! Just trying to find a decent replacement in the meantime! So I'm guessing it's a 3 stud then?

I don't know what you mean by how many studs, if you're referring to the number of studs that connect the exhaust to the turbo then yes, it's a three stud :) if you're looking for a replacement i would find a VNT17 in good condition, and with some minor modifications ( a new intercooler hose) you can fit it to your engine. Then with a remap you can easily get to 140 - 150 bhp. I have an ASV engine also and a VNT17 is on my to buy list also ;)

Haha yea that's what I mean mate thanks for your help! I was really toying with the idea of putting the 150bhp turbo in, bigger injectors and another remap! Mines currently at 130, but it's knackered! The vnt17 sounds promising! Il have to look into it because if I'm changing the turbo, I may as well upgrade ;) that sounds like a plan! Have you got any other plans for it? Is it a mark 2 like mine?

Yes, it's a 2004 Toledo. So far I rebuilt the engine, and being on a very tight budget replaced only the strictly necessary, I did all of the work myself. I cleaned up the intake manifold and cylinder head, it was all clogged up with soot, canceled the EGR valve and used a variable resistor to try and match the new airflow through the MAF with the required values by the ECU. I also cleaned up the turbo's geometry (that was a nerve wrecking experience). The next step is to acquire a MPPS Flasher to read the maps from my ECU and learn how to tune them. I did a lot of reading and the EGR OFF is the first remap I want to try. After I get comfortable with the flashing of my ECU, a VNT17, bigger injectors, new clutch and flywheel, maybe a CAT delete, bigger brakes :D I have lots of plans, but the problem is time and money :) Right now what I'm trying to do is program a key with remote control from a Ibiza to my Toledo which never had remote central locking. I don't even know if it's possible. Any idea on that ?

That's a lot of impressive work by the sounds of things! Would you recommend the blanked EGR? Mine is extremely clogged too and the throttle body is sticking I found out so I was going to buy an EGR and throttle body unit to replace the existing! What happens to the exhaust gases if they aren't re circulated through? That's brilliant it sounds like a plan :) I had a stainless straightpipe put in 2 days ago with a custom upsweep tip and dummy cat. Really nice grunt off it now! Oh yea, I know what you mean, well mine has central locking but the key needs a new battery. You would have to see about the locking mechanisms in your doors, do you have central locking as it is? If you do it should be possible! Head to an autospark about it or a mechanic. I had some probelm switch my locking and he sorted it out for not too bad a price, as you know, the electrics in them are really temperamental!

That thing that looks like a throttle body is actually a valve that cuts of the air to the intake when you turn off your engine. It prevents engine shudder. And about exhaust gasses, they will be evacuated through the exhaust, only part of them are recirculated anyway and the only reason for that are emissions. I passed the MOT easily though with the egr blanked off, but I live in Romania so... The best way is to keep the body of the EGR so you can benefit from the anti-shudder valve, but blank off the pipe that connects to it from underneath, through which the exhaust gasses are recirculated. The problem with this is that the mass of air that passes through the MAF will increase and it will cause a Check Engine Light on your dashboard. The only sure way to get rid of it is with a remap. I used a variable resistor and lowered the voltage from the MAF so it kind of matched what the ECU was expecting. Sometimes it takes more than a month for the light to come back on, sometimes it comes on after 10 minutes. The rebuild of the engine was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed taking every bit apart, cleaning it spotless and putting everything back together. It took me a whole week to get rid of all the soot from the cylinder head until it had nice clean ports for the intake and exhaust. I took pictures too :D. As for the central locking problem, I do have factory mounted central locking, I just don't have the key with the remote, it's a simple key with no buttons. I'll try to program the Ibiza key using the methods I found online, but I don't have high hopes. I made a thread where I ask for help but no luck yet.
