Folks,

I bought my Altea 2.0Tdi in march and I think it was remapped by the previous owner. Putting it in simple terms a 06 Golf GTi couldnt get the better of me today which I think is kind of crazy when you look at 140bhp (Altea) V 200bhp (golf), let me explain what happened, there’s a left turn off a secondary road which leads on to a long straight to a set of round-about traffic lights at the top, after the lights your on to a slip road to the main motorway, anyway here I was coming onto this long straight and looked ahead and seen the lights go green at the top, so into third push and into the left lane, notice a bright set of xenons coming around the corner behind me fast so "lets be havin ye" more power engage fourth off we go guy in the golf isnt gaining at all if anything hes slipping behind. .. uhoh light on the top have been green for a little too long, damn knew it turning amber, I get through on amber GTI dude not so lucky gets red.. [:@]

So do you think my altea 2.0Tdi is chipped. there was about 3 car lengths between us, and we were flooring it to beat the lights which he broke..:banned:

No offence like but how do you know the other guy was giving it full beans?? Just because you saw him coming and thought "here we go" doesn't mean he thought the same. He could quite easily have been driving along in his own little word blissfully unaware of your presence :)

Having said that a modern chipped tdi these days will keep up with most things within reason, especially in the conditions you describe i.e. mid range, in gear acceleration. I'm sure someone will set me straight but a remapped tdi140 must produce near 190bhp and more torque than a GTi so it would be a close call.

You'd need to drive another Altea which you know is stock or get your car onto a rolling road to find out for sure if it's been fiddled with.

All GTis are not 200Bhp I think I heard of a 1.8 non turbo GTi 120 - 130 Bhp.

I also think my car has been messed with as I beat my m8s 110 pulling away. but kept up with a 110 polo :/.

So i need to get mine on a rolling road...

blissfully unaware of my presence and traffic lights also LOL. I hear ya!

Older GTI's were 130, then upped to 150 then they brought out the Anni version with 180bhp IIRC. All of them look identical cause VW got Stevie Wonder to approve the designs.
Could have been any one of them if you didn't get to see the badge/coloring on the back.

All Mk V GTi's are 200bhp (save for the Edition 30 which has a few more horses), but the old style Mk IV GTi came in numerous guises ranging from the 115bhp 2.0ltr, through the non turbo 1.8ltr with 125bhp, and on to the 1.8ltr turbo engined 180bhp.

As this was an 06 plate GTi, we can assume that it was a Mk V.

Sounds like your car has had a remap, as a comparision with my Leon Cupra TDI which has had a remap and is running the power figures quoted in my sig, there is nothing between me a mk5 Golf GTI from about 30 - 80.
If your car has had a remap it will be running a similar amount of torque to mine and maybe a bit less bhp, but your engine is a bit bigger then mine and i think yours is a 16v where as mine is a 8v, i think, but the altea will be a bit heavier then my leon.
So if yours has had a remap then the in gear acceleration will be similar to mine i'd have thought.
As someone has already says you don't know that the other guy was giving it the beans, but if he was then i'd say your altea has had a remap.
