Assuming you have a 6-speed box, probably not, all the ones I've see have been 12-point spline socketed plugs. You will need a tool like this to move them. Make sure to loosen the fill plug first - there is nothing more embarrassing than letting all the oil out only to find you can't put any back...

Does anybody here use an oil extractor? I find them so much easier and the fallacy of them not getting all the oil is just internet crap, I usually get more with the extractor than I do with the drain plug ;)

Plus on a car with less than 6 litres of oil I can have the oil and filter (depending on location) done in 15-20 minutes and not have to crawl around on the floor getting covered in oil :)

Oil extraction works ok but it is slower than conventional methods You normally get slightly more out but if you left the oil draining for the same time you'd probably end up being very similar personally Pop the filler cap crack the oil filter and pull the dipstick to create a good flow if the engine is at the correct temp before hand the oil is drained in ~3 minutes.

As for the topic at hand 19mm sump plug bolt head the cannister is 76mm/14 flutes which is standard for the majority of newer Seats other than the 1.4 MPI that has a 30mm 6 point hex head attached to the end of it, the paper cartridge filters are almost all held on with 32mm 6 point.

as for the the Gearbox drain plug a picture would help they tend to use 17mm allen keys or m16 multi splines I believe the car in question is the latter.

Yep, I have a pella pump. Services in the winter/cold weather get the pella pump and I use the ramps and drain oil from the sump plug in the summer.

The pella is an excellent no mess invention and you can use it to extract the oil from in the filter housing which probably makes up for the few drops it misses from the sump.

The diesels have the paper filer and plastic retaining cap, I wrap a rag round the cap and use a chain wrench to undo it.

If you arent sure about the sump plug, its best to check first that it is the original plug as I have an after magnetic sump plug and that only a 14mm socket
