Just wanted to know what people think are the top 5 mods to enhance the performance of your tdi's. Take into account bhp/torque increase per £

Take it number 1 is a remap ??

Complicate matter. A big turbo may give good gains but will cost a heck, injector nozzles will cost less but will give smaller gains.
Anyway, I'll try:

1-chip
2-injectors [just the nozzles]
3-turbo

then you should remap again to use the extra capabilities of the new parts.

And to me the real performance mods are these.
No doubt you should then have to use a bigger intercooler and a stronger clutch but dunno if you consider that as performance mods.

Simple things like first like Air Filter, - Breaths better will help ..... Less restrictive.. Then you can move onto Chip (remap) or just adding a Tuning box this gives you return to default settings if you wish..

Depends how far you wish to go.. For Me these two were done fairly soon after the Warranty expired.

Then you can move into engine proper mods.. Of which I will allow others to explain in depth.. But if you get Vag-Com (Software - do a search) / Cable & Laptop with a small amount of research first you can do some s/w tweaks that help as well....

All marginal BHP gains...

Dont forget to talk to Mr. Insurance as well......

Just planning my mods in advance - few tuning mods wont go amiss after a few subtle styling mods :)

Gotta get it remapped though.............................

On Mk4 Ibiza and Fabia 130s, if you get a remap tailored on a RR (such as by Jabba), then fit the Cupra 160 air intake first, as the remap will be able to make use of the improved airflow.

From what I've read, Jabba reckon they can gain up to 10bhp more with the bigger air intake fitted, as they can hold the power longer at high revs. Some Jabba'd 130s are reaching 190-195bhp. You could also get the torque peak limited too, which will help preserve your clutch.

Considering the intake costs less than £30, that's an extra 10bhp for not a lot extra.

If you fit it after a remap, or don't use a "tailored" map, then the gains from the intake won't be as big.

I still have to see this with my own eyes, as I can not believe you'll be able to get 10hp from the intake.
I saw 187 and over 190hp from a MK4 Golf with just a remap last week at Stealth (all OE, except for a special revo map). ;)

Just going on what I've read...apparently I heard the guys at Jabba were so impressed they were going to keep a stock of the intake pipes ?

I agree it does sound like quite a lot though.

You've been over in the UK then Paulo ?

Yeah, i know i've read it elsewhere myself. On a diesel I might believe 2-3hp but not more than that.

Have been in the UK twice in the last month or so. :D

Hellfire got 195 bhp out his Fabia vRS with a Jabba remap and Cupra intake. The normal going rate is about 185.

You cant use the Golf as a benchmark because it has better breathing as standard than a Fabia/Ibiza.

Is that 195Jbhp

I'd like to see it on a reliable dyno, back to back with the same car with / without the intake

Some may doubt the power increase from a cone filter, as I did, but with the intake pipes I stuck on my audi onto a cone (rated to 400hp) it created a 'ram air' effect I think - anyway, the faster I went, the harder the car pulled. Only problem I found was when cold car pumped a lot of white smoke out, but that disappeared when warmed up, otherwise no adverse effects. Shield it properly (I used tin foil! Don't laugh, it works! Ok you can laugh :) ) and feed it with a couple of air feed pipes and I reckon you'll get the power increases claimed. On the RR my boost peaked at 1.8 bar@345hp/406lb ft, on the street I was seeing 2 bar. With the stock airbox on it seemed strangled, and intake temps were higher.

Oh yeah, you get the 'PSSSSSHHHHHHHH' sound when changing gear too :)

does the fr leon tdi (150bhp) have the same intake as the 160 cupra?
Tom.
