My TopGear magazine has just arrived through my letterbox and on the front cover is the new LEON Cupra along, with the Civic Type R and the Focus ST and the words 'STIG KNOWS WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU, New Type R vs Focus ST vs New Cupra'

Off too read all about it now!

I was just about to post the same as mine fell thru the door 5 mins ago!

Doesn't make happy reading does it!

(about the Golf GTI E30) "Cronic understear, he hates it", (the Stig), "and firmly blames the dreadful ABS. It doesn't stop the car quickly enough, causing it to go straight on in corners and hopelessly undermines the potential of both chassis and tyres"

And the New Cupra... "Regrettably the Stig finds identiacl fault with the ABS, and denounces it as nothing more than a rougher version of the Golf." "onboard interference seems to neuter the whole dynamic package. Couple that with the truly dreadful interior, apparently desined and executed by a kid on a pocket-money budget...."

By the way, the full line up of car's that the Stig tested was, (laptimes in brackets)
New CTR (1:34.3)
Golf GTI Edition 30 (1:32.6)
New LEON Cupra (1:33.5)
Focus ST (1:33.5)
Megane Reenaultsport 230 F1 Team R26 (1:30.6)
Astra VXR (1:32.0)
Mazda 3 MPS (1:32.0)

The most daft thing is they rated the civic 1st, even though it's a lot slower? :-o

Stange the Cupra doesnt do so well in this test, and in EVO the FR does quite well against the same opposition. Whose right??

Maybe the FR is the new Cupra???

;)

Mazda3 in the lead!? All that horse power does work then.
Have to agree about the interior though it is really isn't great, any in gear times etc?

I rate an evo review over a top gear equivalent anytime. the top gear opinions are ludicrous and take no realistic driving elements into their decision making factors. They are obsessed with track work and going sideways.

The Altea my dad has, has the same interior and i think its pretty nice to be honest, and the Golf GTi was their car of the year only a yr ago.

The renault will break down all the time, autocar said the ctr was pants = poor chassis and slower than the old one, mazda looks as interesting as a sierra, im not saying the Cupra is the best, purely that their reviews are somewhat stupid unless you are spending 19k on a track day car.

no suprise here as the cupra only got 13/20 in the review an issue or 2 ago, they aren't going to say its great all of a sudden! the r26 is track biased car i'd be more interested to see what its like on the road as thats where most people drive....

what did the LCR get in the hot hatch test before? was it around 1:32.9 or something?
