Hi there, i currently own a mk2 ibiza s 1.4 8v, although i love the cupra's and the cupra r's especially, either of which i would love to own. i think i would get bummed on the insurance

So, wanting abit more poke (to say the least) out of t'old beeza. i think its either heavy modification to the 1.4 lump or an engine drop from something better, and not telling the insurance

Although the original lump only just clicked over 70k, im not sure which is the better option of the two.

But then i dont know which engine's are most likely to fit/ be easy to fit and link up etc... I have rather limited knowledge, but am willing to give it a crack and im not shy of putting in the hours.

Im hopefully gonna get some pic's up of the car soon, and any suggestions as to reasonably easy engine swaps would be welcome. although im thinking more than likely the cupra engine would be easiest, and i love turbo's.

OR; modify the original engine, as it has pretty low mileage for a '99, one of the things i thought about was a turbo conversion. But then again... what are the best suggestions for modification to the 1.4?

any help or suggestions would be welcomed.

or if you just think i should shut up and go away, wait till i can get a proper cupra or whatever, mod's can delete this...

sticking a 20vt into an ibiza should only be done when you have the dollars to afford repairs and unforseen problems (and insurance) its still a great conversion but not to be taken lightly.

the 20vt is an expensive transplant fella for what it'd cost you (engine,ecu,loom, dash clocks, gearbox,brake&suspension upgrades etc you could sell the mk2 and buy a cheap ibizaa 20vt mk3 and insure it normally as a standard car.

ive seen the 2L 8v engines on ebay for around £80-£100 get the gearbox and driveshafts ect at a bargin and could all be yours for £200-£250.. its then dependant on labour.. id have a crack and do my self in a weekend but if you go along the route of paying someone to do it, its going to get fairly expensive? you can pick up an older 8v gti for around £1000 these days dependant on condition

I'd rather have a cupra 1.8 20v T, than the 2.0 8v preferrably.

just make sure you don't run into me with a car with null and void insurance.
just live with what you can afford for now,and get a quicker car when your in the position.

what happens when it comes to MOT time, something ive always wondered, does it just get MOT'd as the shell or the engine, cos it will have a 1.4 shell and a 1.820VT engine..

*ud be cheaper buying a mk3 with high miles than a transplant , and good luck declaring an engine transplant, 99% of insurers will tell you where to go mate*

nail on head... if your V5 says 1.4 & MOT puts in engine no....
computer more than likely will say NO?

im waiting to see what mine comes up with this year

engine is declared with DVLA and insurance company but still came up as a 2.0 16v on the emission computer when the chassis/reg was entered

sell your 1.4 and buy a 8v/16v gti, they aint that expensive on Auto Trader. Just save up for your insurance.

You aint ever gonna make a 1.4 ibiza engine quick! Without bolting a rocket to the roof. Large one at that!

nowt wrong with having an 2.0 8v fella while you wait a year or 2 to sort your finances out. they can be very fun and must be like group 10 or 11 or something??

be a good step up from your current engine without breaking the bank

but wouldn't bother doing the conversion unless the car holds value to you. if not then i'd just sell it and pick up an original cupra sport

the amount your goin to spend modding your 1.4 your gunna beable to afford to buy an 8v, insure it, mot it and tax it! just wait til u got the dollar matey.
plus i dont think the price of insurance is bad atall on the cupras, im 20 got a 16valver and pay just over 500 quid for the year.
