anyone interested in the two stroke phenomena, our culinary friends at vegetable oil diesel have added this (link below) and i am sold on it!! razzleultra, what is the significance of JASO-FB SPEC so i can start looking? thanks

Can't remember the exact reasoning for the FB spec, but I think anything less is considered to be a bit to high in ash (when burnt obviously!).

I'm running a decat at the minute and am fortunate to not have a DPF so the only possibly worry for me is the EGR, but that was replaced just a thousand miles or so before I started adding 2stroke.

For reference, I use "Castrol Power1 Scooter 2T" which IIRC is actually JASO-FC (or even FD?), but that just gives it higher detergency which isn't really needed. I just get it because it's handy for me.

thanks mate, that is very useful to know, and i am gonna get some. yeah i am running standard so i should be alright. just took the car out for a spin because i reset the ECU and i reinstalled the MAF (properly this time) and it seemed okay. the only limp mode was near the end of the drive and i had been redlining it for 15 minutes to get the ECU to know the rev ranges again, so i don't blame it, ha! got to the hill i been testing on and there were three cops walking down it so i am not sure if i got a true test as didn't want to tank it!!

I just run

Mine is remapped (REVO) and currently at just over 140,000 miles

Not sure what MPG you guys get but I tend not to hang about in mine and as you can see in the fuelly link in my sig I get about 46MPG

Thanks Mark,

not sure on the MPG but normally pretty okay. so does this work in a similar way to two stroke? (sorry, we have got a little off topic from the original post) or is it just to keep sooting and carbon low?

thanks

Another one here for Millers. I've found it to improve mpg enough to pay for itself. Millers is a cetane improver and fuel system cleaner, so it's not the same as adding two-stroke oil, which just adds to the lubrication value of the fuel with no other effect.

You will never prevent the turbo re-sooting, and products like innotec are great for cleaning, I used it in mine. However they will allow it to re-form in a reasonably short space of time/mileage compared to when you first experience problems.

Mine has lasted 30K miles before seeing limp-mode re activate due to overboost.

A complete overhaul and clean is the only way to give you longer periods between cleaning, you are talking over 100K miles.

thanks Mutley, i will take yours & marks advice!!

Test the maf before replacing, vacuum leaks and dodgy egr valves and bad earths can all affect the maf.

Petrol? In a diesel? I wouldn't, really not worth the risk of damage tbh. The tdi is such a high compressing engine there's just no room for anything else. They work by compressing air till it's red hot then fire in the diesel which explodes on contact with the super heated air. Adding petrol runs the risk of ruining the fuel pump and injectors at the least.

All you need to do first is to get the vnt lever moving it's full length. You don't even have to strip anything down, just get your hand in there and work it back and forth, use something like WD40 to help. Once it's free take the car for a decent burn up the motorway. A sustained rev of around 3500 for a bit should do wonders.

Seat Mann - i managed to aim the WD40 nozzle at the VNT Lever and gave it a drenching and then got my hand in there (with a screwdriver) and gave it a good pumping - repeated this 3 times (and will again probably) and just been for a spin. so far so good, i will keep you informed, as i have not gone up limp hill yet, so that will be the decider. car was a lot more responsive though on the dual carriageway. fingers crossed

Yeah i gave it a good run at 3500 rpm so lets see. didn't know if it moved an inch or so, but it was certainy looser!
