Just wanted to check other peoples true MPG figures on TDI's,

Mine is chipped, which should mean a slight loss in MPG, but I routinely get 300-320 miles, no more no less, to a tank, This costs me on average between £32-34 to fill up the tank, @ 91p average figure that "according to a MPG calculator" that is 38-41mpg.

The Trip computer on Setting 2 re-set after every fill up always shows 44.8mpg

I don't drive flat out 100% of the time, but do use all the available power on a few occasions on each journey, or maybe I do drive with a much heavier right foot then I thought!

Does this seem right ? Any feedback greatly appreciated.

yeah i get average 35 mpg but a don't like being overtoke and people always bully me into thrashing them! but get 40 on a good run. can't get lower than 30 even if a try! and wots the fun in trying to get 40+ when you can still get 35 blasting around!

300-340 per tank

Heres a fill to fill comparason of my 20vt leon cupra to my Ibiza TDi over the same route. I'm quite supprised how peaky it is seeing as the driving is over pretty much the same roads...

we get 300-330 on a tank, but it's petrol :funk:

ok, it's only a 1.2 with 3 cylinders, therefore only using 3/4's of the fuel input.

Still, good mpg from a petrol tho??

Doesn't put me in good stead in convincing Vicky to get a 1.9 TDi next tho :doh:

The pug on the other hand gets extreme mileage.
caning the pants off it round town gets about 36-38 mpg
running on the m-way returns 55-60 (on cruise at 70)

Filled up on Monday, went to Luton and back on tuesday, then to Kingston and back today, + a couple of short trips, clocked up 424miles on 1/2 a tank

I regularly used to get 800-900 miles before i changed job :(
now i average 600 miles round town and short journeys

If I don't get 380-400 to a tank I am disappointed. I have the REVO remap on a FR TDi.

My excuse for 320-340 miles per tank is the joy of London traffic! Wish I could use my right foot a little more.

ummm, will tell you the figure for the year when i do my tax return next year.

But on th elast fill up which was 38 litres of ultimat diesel at 98.9 and that has given me 432 miles this week so at the moment the true mpg is just over 51 mpg. and that is not trying, an average speed of 85 on the mway and quite a bit of it was running round South Swea london.

Its remapped and on 17's:

Daily Commute with 8 miles of pennine twisty/hilly roads and 3 miles of rush hour traffic -
-->45-50mpg

Motorway run of 100miles (20 miles off motorway) at ~80 indicated
--> 55mpg

Last night going to manchester (snake pass and m60 - nuff said), meeting the mankie munkies using the accellerator as an on/off switch for 80 miles with 2/3 people in the car. Oh and plenty of idling to let the turbo cool...
-->33.9mpg (not bad!)

That run last night seems to have helped my car no end - seems so much nippier and quieter. I guess within traffic, things can clog up and what you need to do is not only give it a blast out, but a long extended blast to get temps right up to burn and force everything out of the system. Always let the turbo cool after though and make sure the road conditions are good :p Just a thought

So 38-41 MPG for driving semi fast seems to be average, but not all bad as if I take it really easy I can always get 52MPG @ 45 MPH, 60 MPG @ 75 MPH, 43MPG @ 90MPH

For better mpg when in and around town try only using the first 4 gears.

You will use less throttle at 40mph in 4th than you will doing 40mph in 5th.

As the control of a diesel is basically a fuel pump - the less throttle you use, regardless of the gear you are in, will use less fuel.

Not always true....

heavily richening the mixture of a diesel will only inject about 20-35% more fuel in than just feathering the throttle... If your gear ratio means the engine will be revving over this percentage faster, you will be using more fuel.

Best keeping things above 1500 though otherwise things get a bit dirty on the internals

its all totally dependant on dirving style and route, weather, traffic, like for like matches need to be done on the same road and same driver, even then it can vary by a large amount. This topic can only give ball park figures on what to expect.

My Mk3 5 speed TDI 110 will happily return 53mpg on my drive to work and back each week but if i gave it to someone else on their commutes it could be less due to the above factors.

But the general rule with TDIs is keep it in the sweet spot of 1900rpm - 3krpm for the best fuel economy when accelerating, when cruising this can drop.

300-330?

I get ~390-410 from my '03 1.2 Ibiza, that's going from home to work or going up and down the M40 at 85...

Mpg.

Best I've seen before the low-fuel light came on was 355 miles, so the extra 7 litres (in reserve) should've got me to the 400 mile mark I reckon.

So my average per tank (not including reserve) would be 330-360 miles but including potential reserve more like 375-410 miles methinks.
