Trying out a solution for the sagging bonnet felt

As the title states,
Firstly I removed the bonnet felt because it was all mouldy, sagging and rubbing the MAF sensor. It sat on a table at work drying out for a few weeks before I decided to try and clean it. I bought some Dettol Mould and Mildew remover spray and set to work spraying the whole of the felt. I left it for about 15mins then rubbed it with a damp cloth and 'hey presto' all the mould was gone! I then left it to dry. I cleaned the underside of the bonnet, then sprayed the back of the bonnet and the back of the felt with 'High Temp Spray-Adhesive'. I then refitted the felt pressing it in to all the contours of the underside of the bonnet before putting in the clips. The result is the felt now "FITS" the underside far better. The real test will be when it is wet, will let you know how that goes!!
Has to be better than before though!!

I fixed mine by taking it back to SEAT and having them replace it.

That's what I did originally, and it was my intention not to refit it.
but then I decided to try and do someting about it

Yes, I was wondering how loud it makes it. Mine was covered in mold.

I think the problem is the clips. If you go to seat and get in replaced they also replace the clips with ones with rubber seal type things on them.
Correct me if im wrong though?

Is the new lagging any different or is it just the clips?

The clips actually go under the black plastic trim on the outside of the bonnet. Water tracks down inbetween the trim and the bonnet, under the trim the through the holes that the clips go through. The new clips have a rubber grommet on them to stop the water but you could just take the trim off, put some silicone sealer around the clips and refit.

When I had the under bonnet sound proofing off mine I noticed there is what seems like a drain hole right below the trim strip where the sound proofing gets wet. I did not want to block it off though incase the water cant go anywhere.

Hi there,

First post....go easy....

So doing a search my problem seems to be quite common, saggy bonnet lining. It's my wifes car and she has a 07 Leon FR.

The lining is sagging so much it's rubbing on the engine cover, the Seat logo has had all it's paint rubbed off. I was just worrying if this will create extra heat in the engine in specific points which could lead to damage?

Car is out of warranty or i'd jut take it to the dealer, never relly noticed it till now...damn...

Is this just a Leon problem and all will be ok, or do i need to do womething about it.

is this a in warranty no exceptions thing OR because its a known fault will they do it as goodwill gesture OR will they just piss them selves then tell me to piss off?????

Just ripped off a second sagging, dirty, singed old lining as it was in the way of my shiny newly fitted intake. 500 miles driven mainly in rain and jet washed with no sign of water on engine at all!

Maybe just a tiny increase in the lovely tapping 2.0T engine sound...but hardly noticeable!

Glad to see that other owners have found this. I was checking the oil the other day and thought... hang on ... the bonnet felts sagging a bit.

Does it cause problems if left? I've not had my Leon long

When was this fix introduced? Mine is a 59 plate and water still gets under the sound proofing. Best thing I've found is to lift the bonnet after cleaning and let it run out then go for a blast to dry it off.
