just wondering what the costs were heres the list i'm planning, i take it the 1.8 16v (the cars a P Reg (1996)) engine is basically a mk2 golf GTi engine? need some help clearing up things, all opinions and suggestions / helpwelcome:

Powertec Induction Kit
Schrick Cams (dont know which ones lol)
Chip/Remap
Uprated Spark Plugs and HT Leads
Decat Exhaust (to be replaced with sports cat before MOT)
Wizards Of NOS wet kit (was talking to a mate who said they're a fun way of going quickly, although for not very long, he was running an 80bhp shot on a 1.3 8v VW Polo GT. Said it could take it)

Coilies and other styling bits are on the list to, but that isnt tuning the car
Point me in the right way with some bits please as i'm a newbie to valvers etc

Cheers
Chris

i think the way you goto go to start with is these basic mods

I would go with the following three. Great thing is they have a larger combined effect because all of them work together well.

Exhaust
Various options here. I have a cat back exhaust. Sounds great and did notice an improvement. Quite cheap too. I am planning to get the cat removed. also. It will reduce backpressure but it should be okay(better than with). Only problem you will have is come MOT time so keep the cat and then put it back on prior. Also try and get a straight through exhaust

Air Filter
Theres a debate between induction kit and drilled Airbox. I thought my pipecross induction kit improved throttle responce greatly. Would recommend a cold air feed though cuz mine dosent work as well when the engines hot. Either that or get one with a heat shield

Cams
You do tend to lose lower rev range grunt but in the top end it has a massive effect. Makes an annoying ticking noise, glad i have the exhaust to drown it out. Good for driving around sensibliy at low revs and then slamming your foot down and feeling it take off.

All in all, the mods above have given me an extra 30bhp which is not bad for the money spent. Probably a good base before getting it remapped (which i would choose over chipping because you can specify where you want the power)

yer i was looking to buy a powertec stainless steel induction kit, as they're meant to make a big difference in throttle response, think those are gna be the first 3 mods i do. the cars already got a cat back exhaust but i'm gna make my own decat section for it, and then a stainless 4 branch, maybe a sports cat for MOT time

Cheers

the best i have been told, on very good authority.
is to get rid of the crap gear ratio's. 3,4,5 and the final drive are gash.
