hey guys

I have the 60bhp ibiza (2001 chill) and im just wondering what could i do to try and get it close to 100bhp. Ive looked at superchips and other websites and for around £250 i get a whopping 6bhp increase after being chipped lol. What other things could i do thats not silly prices for tiny improvements? Anyone have any experience in tuning these 1.4's?
This is my first car so i cant afford to buy or insure a faster car such as the ibiza cupra but wouldnt mind making my current car a bit more nippy.

any suggestions would be cool.

thanks :)

I wouldn't bother even thinking about it, anything you do to make a meaningful increase will be expensive and most of the mods you can perform are going to give you little in return as it's not exactly a tunable engine, and if you are going to increase the bhp then unless you are going to be sly and not tell your insurance company you will find that any small increase in bhp will cost you a stack on your premium.

my advice is the amount you would end up spending would be put to better use funding another car.

fair enough. Any idea's to why the engine is so under-powered?

To be honest I don't think it was ever made to be thrashed, that's what the Cupra and Cupra R are for it's more of a runabout car than anything, but it is very underpowered in my opinion too, it would have been nice with a few extra horses under the bonnet, but then again if it did have you would be paying a wedge more for your insurance. Can't win either way.

Best to save for a faster car....

stick some nice 16's on your 1.4.......like the cupra ones and decent rubber as mentioned.....

you could invest in the handling with suspension too.......springs and shockys...

i've got a 1.0 mk2 which is my first car and i'd rather be paying 347 a year fully comp when i'm 20 and saving for a better 'tunable' car.

all i've done to mine is stick it on 17's....hopefully 16's soon. Its got suspension.......and cat back to make it sound a bit sweeter....

Get some decent pads on the brakes too and you should with the above feel more confident flinging it into corners etc......(private roads) therefore getting a bit more speed!!

engine gets the standard treatment as theres no point even attempting spending wads of cash on an engine that might give you 10bhp back.......

i'm saving for a mk 16v or 8v even.

i have 1.4 and decided to just try and concentrate on making it corner really well, as these guys say its not a very tunable engine at all.. so stick to handling its more fun :)
