I know this is a divisive issue but i'm i'm looking to buy a tuning box for my tdi 130.

I know there are many types, good ones and cheap 'resistors' which just add more fuel.

I was wondering if anyone has got them installed and would recommend a type?

Looking to spend around £70 ish. Have heard Dragon and TDI-tuning boxes are the cheap resistor types?

As you mention the cheap ones will just trick the car to over fuel.

I think it works out more money for a good box than a re map which is why folks tend to go down that route.

Personally I recon you would prob have to pay a lot more that £70 for a genuine tuning box. not looked for ages myself but seem to recall £200-350 ish

Hey if the cheap resistor one works then i'm fine with that! I don see the point of 2-300 for a tuning box when u could get a remap

They don't work though (the cheap resistor types), they just over fuel the car. It's crap for your economy figures, it's not good for the car, and it's not even extracting the best performance from the engine.

I think Blacksmoke remaps that you can flash yourself are around £40-50, and for reference, I only paid £150 for my fully custom remap which I can't fault at all!

The only reputable ones that spring to mind are DTUK, and I think you'll be spending more than £70. They're more like £300. At that point I'd say just get a remap. Mapping really isn't something to be cheap about, as if it goes wrong it could damage components and end up costing you a lot in the long run.

Who did yours for £150? Would you recommend?
