Mine is the pd140. And problem started at 29k, now got 32k. Still drives fine but is always in the back of my mind, so can never really enjoy driving it . Did your bros cause any other damage when it eventually died and under what type if driving did it go.

Mine is an 07 plate, I have an extended warranty but it's not worth the paper its written on and due to time limits I can't claim on it now. From what I read unless something was physically broken inside they won't pay out, and don't think mine is damaged, more likely bearing failure.

No major damage luckily, the 1st one went badly as he didn't know what was going on the repair bill came to £1700 because the front section of the exhaust was covered with oil (catalyst) the bill says but this was covered through warranty the 2nd failed in such a way it was a loss of boost pressure only, loads of black smoke once revved no police siren and no oil loss, first thoughts was boost pipe but it was a internal fault believe the bearing collapsed sheering of the turbo vains themself luckily no engine damage drove it into the garage for lack of boost but the police siren sound was very bad at this time

Mine is also worst when cold, and when you Rev to about 2500 rpm and let go again the is almost a metalic sound as if the turbine is just ever so slightly catching

You sure the metalic sound is not a wastegate or something like that ?

I live in Kent, and would like to know if anyone has had there turbo replaced recently and can recommend a garage or decent private mechanic to carry out the work. Also im curious as to what prices people have paid and what option they went for. I.e new exchange or rebuild etc

I had the same sound on my Leon when I got it. 3 days later the noise developed into a very loud screaming noise and I had no turbo boost at all. The turbo went.

Ok, wish mine was that easy. I have a extended warranty however as less than 1% of turbos fail due to manufacturing defect, they are unlikely to pay out and will deem wear and tear, then all agreed labour rates etc increase. Didnt have the funds to risk it originally and now the 30 day repair limit has run out

Yep, mine sounded like that, but the noise was around 1000-1500rpm though.
How long ago did you get the car? Did you call and make any inquiries about it?

Wow, that really is loud. Mine is no where near that level yet. It would be easier if mine just went cos it forces you to fix it, but when its only a noise and no performance issues, I cant help but feel like I am being robbed.

How long did yours last whilst making that noise? Also did it start off like mine?

i bought mine (standard one) from turbo technics 2 years ago, ive got the noise back too! This time round im just putting in a 2nd hand turbo as i dont plan to keep the car after.

But if i was doing it again, and keeping the car, id recommend getting a hybrid

Thought I would record a video of the turbo noise before it goes in for replacement next week. You can also hear a bit of flutter on lift off. Not sure if that's normal or what causes it?

My passat 2.0Tdi sport sounded like that. I replaced it before it went. I got mine from Midland turbo. Cant remember exactly, but it was under £400 i think, and a fairly easy DIY job. Just need to replace the oil feed pipe to the turbo.

Did it cure the noise?
