Hi,

I had a hole in the pipe that goes into the turbo so i sealed it on the outside with a hot glue gun hoping this would solve the problem.

Initially this worked like a dream however after 20 miles or so i noticed alot of black smoke out the back and a burning smell. I stopped and realised the sealent had been sucked through the hole and into the turbo.

Now above 1bar boost it wails alot. The black smoke has now faded however theirs still more smoke than normal.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Simon

forgot to say it's a 1.9 fr tdi leon 2004 70,000 miles

haha nah mate! like a constipated squirrel sort of an eeeeeeek sound

So it would be reasonable to assume that you have damaged the compressor wheel and possibly the bearing. Personally I would not drive it any further until its properly assesed.
You do not want over 4 liters of oil going through your engine if the bearing fails or the shaft snaps. This can do a lot of damage to your engine.

it's the pipe just before the EGR valve!

Aaah sorry, thats not really the induction side as its post the turbo and compression side, though its still in the induction circuit. The noise is probably due to the hole as the glue would have been blown out (hopefull) under positive pressure.

Thanks Glynn

Any idea of the sort of price this would be to fix?

I never had to buy this pipe for mine but its likely to be between £25 and £50.
Get it done asap as the engine can draw in air from that hole when there is little or no boost from the turbo.

ahh sorry mate didn't read your last post!

I was thinking surely if it stays hot enough it'll just come out the back.

I don't understand what you mean the noise is down to the hole??

Well that hole should not be there, so when you turbo is boosting a good proportion of it is escaping throught the hole. When you say if it stays hot enough it will come out the back, what do you mean? Its unlikely and unlucky if any glue has been drawn in but not impossible. Get some duck tape and bind that hole up until you get a new pipe, just dont expect it to last long!

I've sealed the pipe for the time being but i'm concerned because of the noise it's making still

When i say come out the back i mean glue burnt up inside the turbo and came out the exhaust

It will not burn up in the turbo as the pipe into the egr is a long way beyond the turbo.
If glue did go in and it depends on the size, it may firstly damage a valve or if really unlucky it could bend a rod. There is no room for that in the compression chamber on a pd150 engine. Yeah I know some will read this and laugh but its possible though unlikely!!!
First thing you need to do is get a new hose, you will not have sealed that hole up once 14psi has gone through it. The black smoke tells you that not all the boost is reaching the engine, or there is an issue with compression somewhere.

Seat want £200 for the hose............so i've sealed it with 10m of rubber self emalgemating tape round the full pipe.

It's still making the noise. however it's not smoking at all now!

I've got a video of the boost gauge showing where the noise kicks in. You can also hear the noise on the video.

need to post a few more times so i can post video of the noise! sorry about this!
