stoke on trent
just wanted know how do you get the turbo whistle from a TDI? my friends passat whistles and hisses mint! but cant seem get mine to make any noise at all apart from standard diesel revving (bag of spanners in washing machine noise) lol :/

Replacing the airbox with a cone filter induction kit normally makes the turbo more audiable. You could also fit a release to atmosphere dump valve for the whoosssh sound when you lift off the thottle pedal. Removing the sound deadening pad from under the bonnet might help too.

its just his is only a 2.0tdi and mines the 1.6tdi cant be that much difference apart from 400cc turbos must be similar ?? his whistles and whooshes proper nice, mine is just like bag of spanners in washing machine with nothing lol :/ when a re-map is released would this help me or not ?? and when they do a DPF delete do they remove the filter and put a straight pipe in ??

An efficient turbo shouldn't really be noisey. DOn't think you can put a dump valve on it because it has variable geometry to control the boost, not a valve? Correct me if I'm wrong...

My Leon 150tdi was really loud, think it was just an old and badly designed turbo...powerful though!

I know this isnt relevant but i have a Boca and as soon as i put my Cat back Milltech on the turbo whistle is unreal from 4k RPM up wards sounds awesome!

It's only something I've noticed on decatted diesels. My old TDi Sport had a bit of a whistle to it (only a bit though) and it was remapped, decatted, de-mufflered with a panel filter and bigger air intake off a Cupra. Thankfully mine didn't make that ridiculous "Coooooooo" noise every time I changed gear. Gayest noise in the world (besides Justin Bieber )
