Hi all
Had my mk1 cupra r a couple of weeks now. Haven't been using it much to be honest as it's mainly tucked up at work in the dry!
I bought it knowing there was a water leak, hoping it was the door membranes.
I removed all the door cards and the only door leaking was the drivers side, which I then sealed.
The carpets were soaked so I removed the carpets and the sound deadening... And wow, so much water.
Still got water leaks coming into the car.
1. Passenger side front and rear footwells have puddles in.
2. Rear offside footwell has a puddle and along the seal by where the plastics go.
Right, the first leak has led me up the garden path, I replaced the pollen filter housing seal and sealed the grommet up nearby. Still leaks. But, this is what I have found:
Seems to me like the bulkhead has cracked. Seems like a pretty big job, so... Has anyone else had this issue with it cracking on this side? As I know the drivers side is common to crack.
I have some seam sealer at work but it's in a very tight area so would anyone recommend a easier fix?
My second leak, with the plastic C pillar trims on, the water was leaking into the rear offside footwell. I removed them to see where the water was coming from, and I found this:
Right, so to try and cure it I have sealed the wiring grommet up for the boot and also the plastic covers by the hinges I have cut some holes in so the water flows out quite nicely.... And it still leaks.
I'm thinking maybe it's a cracked seam seal OR the hinges? I have had the boot open and hosed each part down and no leaks, with the boot shut... It leaks.
My headlining isn't wet and the area is so restricted you can't really see anything.
Anyone else had this issue?
It's doing my head in now, I just want to enjoy the car for what it is but having no luck yet.
As you can imagine the car is gutted at the moment.
Any advice would be great help.
Thank you
