The Blackcountry
Hi all,
just a quick one - thought I'd check the tyre preasures on the mota tonight to see if they were all ok.

The sticker inside the fuel filler flap (an obvious place to keep such information I thought  ) said 33 lbs all the way round.
When I checked them they were 38 all the way round :-o

So which is right?
If one or even two had have been at that preasure and the rest at 33 I might have thought they were over inflated but as they were all at 38, could this be right and the sticker be wrong.

Any thoughts???

if it's a brand new car it could be the pda hasn't ventured as far as checking / adjusting your type pressures. i could be wrong (and trust me someone won't be long in telling me if i am!) but i think the cars are delivered to dealers with high pressures and should be adjusted as required when pda'd.

Did you check the tyres after you'd driven home and they were still warm?

Mine were 38 when I checked them Friday evening when I got home. I adjusted them and checked them on Saturday morning and they were down to 29.

Tyres

Good point,
the preasure rises as the tyres get warm due to the air expanding dont they - i think they were cold though

Better check them again.

In the meantime I rang SEAT uk for "technical" advice to be told that they could not give me any more info than what was on the sticker in the fuel flap :banghead2

Ah well spose i'd better trust the sticker in the lack of any other info...

Yup, must be checked when cold, and not parked in the sun either.
Use your own gauge too - otherwise you have to drive to a garage, which will warm the tyres up (a bit). And most garage gauges are miles out anyway.

38 is way OTT if they were cold (32-33 sounds about right), but they could have just been left high from delivery. I was told that tyres pressures are left high during delivery, to help withstand the wheels being strapped down hard... I had mine trailered over from Holland and I think they were 40+ when I got it, but the delivery chap did warn me this would be the case.

It depends on what your trying to achieve.
I do a lot of motor-way miles and looking to get the most out of fuel economy.

Plus my car changes from being just me to 4 passengers.

I have 35 PSI front and 33 PSI rear.
I now get about 20 miles more out of a tank of fuel against what i was getting with the factory recommendation.

When the car gets re-mapped (Hopefully in a few weeks) i was advised to drop the PSI by 1-2 to get better handling with the extra power and torque.
