Tyre Pressure Monitor

Hi guys,

On my way home tonight my TPM light came on. I pulled over and there it wasn't obvious which tyre was triggering the light.

So I drove to Tesco (luckly the next junction) to check the pressures and only one tyre was 1 PSI out so decided to drive home carefully. At home now, all tyres look ok.

Do you think I should reset the system and put it down to an over enthusiastic sensor or leave it as it is and take it to the garage?

Cheers
G

Mine did this when I hit a rather large pot hole. Checked it all and no issues, just reset it and carried on.

It did go off a couple more times which i then discovered a nail in one Tyre.

Yes, I'd check all the tyres make sure they're the correct pressure which you did,
Then hold the button down to reset. If it keep coming on, it would appear to be a faulty sensor.

Just for information - the tyre pressure monitor does not monitor actual tyre pressure.

It uses the ABS sensors to measure wheel speed.

If a wheel starts turning faster than the others it assumes the pressure has gone down and puts the tyre pressure light on.

Keep an eye on the tyre pressures for a day or two and reset the system when yr happy the tyres are all ok.

Thanks guys, I'll have another look in the morning. If all the tyres look ok, I'll reset the system and put it down as a blip!

Also doing max of car for x amount of miles will set it off(thinking higher pressure aswell as lower pressure).... So Ihear...

Thanks everyone. I left the car overnight and all the tyres looked fine in the morning, so I reset the system.

Put correct pressure in then hold down the Tyre monitor button for like 10 seconds and it'll disappear!

It's the (!) yellow light with a zig zag under the exclamation mark! The button is next to the ESP button to reset it and the light is on the dials

The system should reset when stationary when both tyres have match pressure. Holding the button for 10 seconds should do it, you will hear a bong after.

When my tyre was so low, I tried resetting it and refused too. It wasnt till I added some air it went out. I then discovered the nail.

I can't see how a system that has no pressure sensors in the wheels can detect low pressure when it is not moving.

Resetting the system when it is stationary presumably just clears the memory. It will sense incorrect pressure again once you start driving.
