If you want a good value summer tyre, then I'd stick with mid range (plenty to choose from), uniroyals are very good within the wet. Made by conti, as you'll probably know, don't last that long. I've found mich & bridge tyres to last a bit longer, but you'll pay a little bit more for them. I once had 60k out a set of turanzas on the back, 40k from a front set, on an Astra.
Neither would I discount other makes like Maxxis or GT-radial, if you could get them in your size. Better value for money rage, in my experience, still have decent grip within the wet & dry.

Not that I keep meticulous records... RS3 start with 8mm tread (compared to some brands that start with 7 or even 6!). I've done 12,500 on the front and they are sitting at 4mm (I usually change mine at 3mm). I've done 9,200 on the rear and they are on 7mm. So I expect to get about 15k out the front before I swap them and probably about 20k out the rear. Oh also, I drive like a d!ck, the fronts get well and truly abused.
I've never actually owned a tyre with 6mm from new, most I've ever owned have had 7-9mm from new (9 being a winter tyre). I usually change mine at 3mm, so starting at 6, you don't have much to lose...:(
I usually swap my fronts to backs to then change all 4 when the time comes, personal preference. As I like to change all 4 preferably with the same make. Although summer performance tyres are not my preference now, more of a jack of all trades all season type. Joy of running with 16's.

My Honda has slightly less than 40k on it, on 5th set 0f rears and 3rd set of fronts so really 15k out of tyres for the Seat and I'm happy and they are also cheaper, win win.

I've also found that the weight of the engine plays a significant part with tyre wear, my last diesel used to eat them. My current 205/55 16's are cheap as chips, massive selection, one of the reasons I put 16's on, also for comfort too. putting wider tyres onto a 1.2 tsi just does not seem to make practical sense.
I still find it hard to believe the amount of people still running around with bald tyres.
