Tyres for FR FLift

Anyone with a TDI FR FL leon had any new tyres? if so which did you go for?
car currently sits on 17's as i prefer the ride.
i have pirelli's on from new, but wondered if i should stick with these, as these are what i had on the old FR with 18's as well, but wondered if michelin or contis were any better grip and durability wise. i know michelin are a little dearer

thoughts please

It's been well documented on this site, do a search. Has always is down to personal preferance/driving style and how the rear tyres last before showing 50p wear patterns on the inner tread !!

Had PZeros on my pre-fl Leon...AWFUL!!!!
My FL has come with Bridgestones on it, a lot better, although my car still has flat spots on all 4 alloys (from dealership, they agreed to pay for new alloys) so havent chance to give it some proper stick yet

I've got the 18's on my FL FR and mine came with Dunlop Sport Maxx

Now using Hankook V12 Evo which are holding up pretty well and aren't wearing as quick as the Dunlops and have good performance in the wet and dry

I've heard that the Vredstiens are supposed to be quite good and cheaper than pirelli's

I have Bridgestone RE050's excellent in the dry and not too bad in the wet. This colder weather is making them less sticky though but then they are summer tyres. Had the RFT version on my 118d and after 15K were only half worn front and rear.

I'm a big Michelin fan myself - they're not cheap, but they certainly last!

They're sat in the garage now though - got the Dunlop winters on!

I have Dunlop Sport Maxx GTs on my facelift FR, which are what it arrived with.

All 4 tyres have no tread on the inner edges after 12k

Had a 4 wheel alignment done to try and at least part solve the droning noise the wear is casuing until the tyres are properly worn out, which has worked to a fashion.

I'm looking at picking up some Michelin PS3s, I've heard some good things about them!

If you have no tread on the inner edge of any tyre, that would suggest a geometry problem to me

I say 4 wheel alignment, it was a full geometry setup that was done.

The droning has lessened a lot but is still there, which I'm pretty sure is just due to the crap state of the tyres. It's surely not worth ditching tyres with a few thousand miles left in them due to inner edge wear?

Argued the point with the dealer when the car went in for servicing, but they didn't seem interested.

From what I remember though, you need visible tread across the whole tyre and 1.6mm min across the centre 3/4's to be legal though

EDIT - Just checked this, you don't need visible tread outside the centre 3/4's - as long as the ply isn't showing you're fine

There's no ply showing, or obvious bulges, so I think they are ok to be used.

I had the tyres rotated front to back when the car was serviced, mainly so I can replace a full set with something different and get the maximum use out of them, which wont be more than another 6-8k with how the "old" fronts were fairing before I had them switched.

Not very impressed with the longevity of the Dunlops, nice and grippy though, I guess you can't have it all.

Argue it with the dealer, when my old FR went for servicing a guy started talking to me, on his 2.0tdi sport, both the rear tyres had bad inside wear, and as far as I'm aware, the garage replaced them and did a 4 wheel alignment under warranty.
