Hi all, very impressed with SCN - you've helped me sort my sticking boot lock already!

I'm looking to trade in my almost new tyres (recently bought 51 plate cupra) for higher performance tyres (thinking Falken 452's?) but not sure where I can get this done, anyone know?
I live in SW London but will be spending a few weeks in Luton and West Sussex over the summer, so am very keen to hear of someone who can do tyre trade-ins!

My front indicator only works intermittently (? a connection), the r/c/l only works very close to the car (? key battery) and a washer jet needs adjusting. Is there an easy way to solve any of these probs or do I need to visit a vag specialist? If its vag, does anyone know of any decent ones in SW London (Tooting), Luton/Dunstable or W Sussex?

Thank you!!

Lee

I had the same problem with the remote locking on my newly purchased LC, went to the seat garage last week and got the battery changed and it didn't make any difference, I still need to be within a metre of the car :-(

Thank you lordgibbness! I've heard good things about the GY Eagles - are the Asymmetrics different to these?

Walrusjoe, sorry to hear the battery didn't work. Have others had the same problem? Any solutions?

The Asymmetric is the replacement of the old GSD3. GY have improved the wet weather handling with this tyre. Full name is Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric and they're usually £110 a corner, but well worth it and up there with any handling modification.

Rah! 110 a corner.. is there that much difference to the F1's?

If anyone knows somewhere that does trade ins on tyres, please let me know!

To be honnest mate not many places buy part worn tyres anymore, what make of tyre have you got on there at the mo. As for the price of the good year egales they will prob be less than £100 as you've prob got 17" alloys (225/45/17) on your cupra. They are £110 each for 18" (225/40/18). Yes the remote needs new battery, and the indicator could be a loose connection

Thanks dav3 ! Yeah, they're 16's. The tyres are accelera alphas, only done about 1000 miles. Where's the best place to get tyres? Just google it then ask best prices?

Is there a map on this site of seat/vag specialists to get the key battery?

Re: indicator connection, is buying a Haynes manual a good first step?

good man lordgibbness

i used one of these companies before, bought some dunlops. Seem to remember that the tred wasn't as deep as other new tyres I'd seen and thought that may be that's why they were a bit cheaper. Do all new tyres come with the same depth of tred?

mate, go for the falkens, i have these.... with a diff, arbs, braces, tt bushes etc they handle the power and traction really well, infact very well id say, so id go for the 452s for the price they are an awesome tyre.

Falkens - they arent the best tyre around, but are a good priced tyre. James - why not try the Asymmetrics next time around - would go well with your mods. Remember newer tyres on rear though!

I have heard good things about the Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics and the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas. I can't comment on them because they don't do anything under 17 inches - no good for my Fabia.

If you on a budget I have heard good things about those Falkens or Khumo KU 31s. You could try Toyo T1-R. I have the Goodyear F1 GSD3s and Toyos and can't fault them, however I have read the Toyos don't last long.

thanks chaps , my 16's rule out the Asymetrics, but blackcircles has GSD3's at £77

they've got an offer on Toyo Proxes T1-R at £65 incl fitting (the T1-S they are replacing are £95!) - so coming in cheaper than the Falkens!

ooo - I feel an impulse buy coming on!!

Have people used BC before and got 9mm of tred?

Another recommendation for F1 Asymmetrics though they are very soft. Car's standard and I've only done around 5k on them and they're down to about 3 mm or less on the front. However the grip in wet and dry conditions is very good and they're better all round than the GSD3s I used to have.

Most new tyres i have seen usually have 7-8 mm of tread.

Once you decide on a tyre you want dude the treads going to be the same wherever you buy the tyre provided its not a part worn.

The Eagle Assymetrics are the replacement for the GSD3's (as others have said)

I have GSD3's on the front and Proxes T1-R on the rears

woah down to 3mm after 5K! guessing you're using the full capacity of your std car :D
(mine's std too) were they a full 9mm when you bought them?
