Hi All,

I fitted a set of ultimax discs and DS2500 pads to my car 2 weeks ago (so all of the black coating has gone) I bedded them with progressive heat build up etc, but last night I did some fairly heavy braking and by the time I got home the brakes were smoking!!!

Any ideas as to why this would happen? - I've done about 150-200 miles since i fitted them.

I'm hazarding a guess that its a bit of a fine coating of paint left on the discs and the heat from the heavy braking has caused it to burn off?

Cheers

Lee

ermm not sure id imagine its just the bits of paint left but id ring up where you got them from and see what they say.

yes its the coating on the discs i have them there black arent they? they'll bed in so dont worry they usually take double them milles to bed in they are new pads as well which are good so give 500 odd to bed in fully

Mine had a new set of pads when i picked it up broke them in over a week period then did some high speed braking and they started smoking aswell, it hasnt effected the performance, if anything they are sharper, if you continually do high speed braking you may suffer with brake fade but once they cool down they will be ok again.

'smokin is normal when you are using them.... it will go away when fully bedded in.

Hi All,

Thanks very much for your quick replies, i'm glad its pretty normal!!! :)

smell always reminded me of being close to a mcdonalds for some reason

every time i pull up near the local one now and get a whiff i intuitively check the brake pedal - doh!
