My car was missing the usb option when it arrived and my dealers are supposedly working on a fix to get one fitted retrospectively. They tried to get away with just throwing a Dension unit in it but I told them I was rejecting the car because it was not what I ordered. Last time I spoke to them someone else had complained about the same issue.

I wasnt expecting it and so prepped myself for this - includes bluetooth and a dedicated ipod UI for this unit:

Alpine Head unit

Even Dension and other similar units dont allow track names if i recall from another post here

I don't have the USB option either. Nor am I fussed about the steering wheel control so I'm cool my playlists are awesome anyway so there's no need to change :)

The Dension does show the track names but I do not have the flexibility of a usb socket

If you dont have USB option, as its been set, a retrofit is pretty much off the cards. Therefore Dension is a good bet. I haven't used it but some on here have. It will work but i have no idea what the UI will be like.

If you have USB option, the BMW option is plug and play and charged ipods (dunno about iphone)
Tell you what - if someone wants to buy me an iphone I could check it :)

I bought a lead identical to the BMW one and it does not work. Getting another one sent out incase it's the leads fault?

Yep - that one is too basic/cheap - to work in the Ibiza it needs to have a little box that converts the music so the radio knows what it is.

At the moment it seems only SEAT and BMW/Mini use this type of lead - I previously bought a Ford Fiesta cable which was basically an expensive version of what you got from ebay and it didn't work either, because it didn't have the converter.

I'd guess that usb end of this cheap lead is for charging the iPod only without any ability for the head unit to interrogate the iPod (confusing the head unit), the aux part is for audio only. Have you tried just connecting the usb part of the lead to the usb charger thing that it came with plugging that into the power socket and the 3.5mm jack into the aux? You should get audio then but you won't get any iPod control which I'd assume was the whole point of the lead.

A tad off topic but out of interest when playing music from a memory stick in the usb port does the music have to be in mp3 or will it work with AAC as well?

Well after listening to music files on a memory stick for a while (MP3, WMA and AAC on a 16G) and getting slightly fed up with the time it takes to index the folders I went for the iPod BMW cable at the local dealers, as already stated here it's half the price of the Seat version and works 100% with an iPod classic, navigating tracks is quicker and for me the sound is better than playing from a memory stick although that might be down to how the tracks were ripped. I don't know if it will charge an iPhone yet, I'll ask a mate from work to try it out.

I have just checked this BMW cable with a freinds iPhone 3GS. You do get a message on the iPhone stating 'This accessory is not designed for the iPhone' however it works fine and charges the phone. The cable I bought from BMW was a different part number than the one quoted earlier in this thread, I'll post the number later after I get home.
