And there we thought everything was rosy after the ID.Polo was announced

Think I'll wait till after 2030 for an ID.Ateca 😉. The electric birth is taking a bit longer in VW... what we see on the Cupra side is the first generation. Second generation will be inspired by the the second generation IDs. Product gap seems to have been pushed back again.

Seeing what's on offer in terms of "features" in every new car, I feel alienated by the direction of automotive industry. So, while efficiency will be better no doubt, I'm not sure whether the second or later generations will be better for user experience, at least for us enthusiasts.

For the time being, I'm very very happy with my 2025 Ateca, which uses a platform dated back to year 2016, maybe earlier even, with its old school instrument binnacle, full physical climate controls, infotainment screen integrated in dash, no hybrid and no brake regen; and this was the last model I could buy brand-new with these characteristics that I love and look for. Hope I wouldn't have to replace it for some reason in 10 years at the very least. Then I would be nearer to my time for stopping the driving anyway.

Yes the Ateca is based on the Tiguan of circa 2016. You got more car for your money with the Ateca over a Tiguan at the time and looks better (Tiguan Mk2 then the Skoda factory ran up the Karoq as part of the three sizes of SUV in Vag making 9 (3 brands x 3 SUV ranges)). Mine will carry on all being well to 2030 or so.

I keep an eye on what's coming and what can get serviced locally. We dont talk about stopping driving ;) .That UK pesky eye test coming in... the Elrog is the EV version of the Karoq. We never got that. The models did a separation with Cupra doing it's thing. Seat pushed back to the ICE support act. Born and ID have a heritage. Tavascan has a Chinese ID heritage where you find it's other brothers and sisters in that plant. Youtube Chinese motor shows are instructive on the related models which you cant get here. I suppose the question is where is the ID.Tiguan and the answer to that may be what happens to VW SUV production in Europe. They got the Elrog. Its the second generation SUV IDs or we look to VWs Chinese deal.

The Elroq is Skoda's equivalent of an ID.3 and shares it's underpinnings, I don't believe it's supposed to be an EV version of the Karoq, that chassis generally uses the 1.4/1.5tsi hybrid powertrain and was only ever a full BEV with the likes of the E-Golf.

I am going to stay with my 11 year old motor, still gives me all I want and has a lot less gadgets (both safety and otherwise) that break down / cause issues.

Also YouTube videos about that previews the screens and clicky button from the preview design car. Break out of paddle switches on the dash. In this video... something to look forward too . I'm sure your fingers would fumble across them driving.

@Tell - thanks for posting. I quite like the interior and IMHO the mix of physical switches and functions accessed via the touchscreen is a good balance.

The physical switches below the infotainment screen are very Renault-like in Renault’s current generation of cars. Shame VW hasn’t taken the opportunity to rethink the multi function rotary control for the exterior door mirrors - it’s been mentioned on this forum quite a few times before that that single control used by other (all?) VAG brands including Seat and Cupra is trying to do too many things; combining the mirror heating with the car’s heating and ventilation controls would be better IMHO. I do like how the interior door release handle is incorporated into the armrest.

The reflection of the dashboard top onto the windscreen is very pronounced and really distracting though; maybe the car in the video has had a dark tint film applied to the windows for show purposes which has the effect of reflecting images onto the interior of the windows. Hopefully, that won’t be a feature of production cars.

I'm fine with the mirror rotation switch but you do need to read the manual to use it  . Ofcourse next time you have forgotten the process. Dealers I find fiddle it on the test drive after service then you are faced with getting it back. Those that have or use dip on reverse may find they have got to reposition it if it drifts.
