So the smaller engine worked for some then, FR looks but with no real go ;)

Just not really sure how good it would be pulling the large Leon round - the 170 and the 211 are just about right with that little extra poke remapped its awesome mid-range.

you know i was just about to come to the defence of the 1.4tsi then saying it would be enough to still feel nippy! ONLY because i thought it was the 1.4tsi 160bhp one! Ive just read that its actually the same engine as the 1.4tsi Bluemotion running a total of 123bhp! WTF man you cant stick FR badges on that!

Please someone tell me im wrong, how many FR's are now going to get beaten at the lights by 1.2 clio's! People are going to look at an FR in a while and think, "Their w@nk, my mate bozza beat one the other day in his ripspeed corsa!"

what have they done to this brand. (end of rant)

******
Ok, apologies for the rant, i know this will be welcomed by some who have high insurance etc but how can one arm of the company call it their super efficient bluemotion engine and the other say its their sporty formula racing model. I cant believe they've gone with the 123bhp when the 140bhp diesel is therefore faster and more efficient? 160bhp fair enough, its a sneaky tactic to sell more cars before the mk3 comes out but why would you buy the petrol then? its like the ppl who go out and buy 320i's when the 320d is again faster and more efficient?

Life is confusing me.

A disgrace. Cannon Fodder. Laughable... etc etc

Rly, how come? If I would live in UK, i wouldnt drive a seat. Thing is we have to pay atleast 30% more from a car than you people do, so thats why they maybe put a 1.4 tsi on the line. The Fake FR which I bought cost me 27000€, which is aprox 25k pounds. Fuel price over here is 1,6€/litre. Sporty looks and fuel economy is the keyword for me and many ppl in rest of europe. I have a Ibiza FR atm, and I wouldnt say its rapid either, and shitty on fuel economy. Just a thought I would like to share.

I don't get it, why insult somebody's brand new car? Thought this was a forum for like minded enthusiasts, not a platform to slate a car that is not as quick as your own. There are a lot of reasons why people want the smaller engine but superior spec of the Fr, economy insurance etc. I don't understand why putting an fr badge on a smaller engine has given people with the 2 l fr's such an inferiority complex.

Exactly!

We recently bought a 1.4TSi FR for the wife to drive, and she really likes it. Fizzy zippy engine that sounds like you are making good progress, light responsive handling, reasonable running costs, but actually quite slow...

...

Perfect :D

They've diluted the badge - FR used to have a baseline performance now it's a trim level.

Oh and people are entitled to their opinion. ;)

You are right people are entitled to their opinion, I never said they weren't, I just think it is possible to have your opinion without being insulting. To say to a guy that has just ordered a brand new car that it is laughable, just because you think that your car has lost little exculsivity because of something the manufacturer did, is a bit s**t. In my opinion ofcourse.

I don't think he was directly insulting the persons car, he was more insulting the brand for diluting the badge

As said FR has become more a trim/equipment option instead on "performace" option. Here in Finland we dont have FR+, but with extras its the same as FR+. Maybe im becoming old, but I really don't need a 2.0 TSI engine to cruise at city center or highway. Max speed here is 120 KM/h and for me 1.4 TSI is enough to bypass a truck at motorway. And I mainly use the car to go work. And by the way, 1.4TSI, 1.8TSi and CR140 are named as FR Edition overhere. So not actually FR eventho everything is the same spec wise.

If you are young in the UK you should know what insurance is like, I currently drive a golf mk6 1.6tdi match and it is just too boring for me, I was going to get a 1.4tsi 122 golf with sports suspention pack but still its a bit common. I decided to look at a seat leon as its a better looking car on the golf chassis, and found that an FR 1.4tsi is about the same to insure as a non gt golf. I drove it and it feels so much tighter and fun and looks a lot better inside out than the mk6. I would of thought that people would appreciate a nice FR leon on the road despite the engine, bit more interesting than another golf on the road i guess. Some people seem a little rude here and seem to forget some people cant all insure Cupra's -_-
