I have a 1.8T cupra 2000 with the AUQ engine in. i have a large front mount fitted and its been mapped but the car is throwing up 3 codes.

VAG CODE: 16621 MAP SENSOR LOW INPUT
VAG CODE: 16490 MAP SENSOR
VAG CODE: 17705 PRESSURE LOSS

the car has had the MAP SENSOR (connected to the intercooler) wire extended and it has a 4 pin plug on the end to a 4 pin connector. there are 3 wires totally connected and one is broken and connected to nothing could this be an earth to car chassis wire?

anyone able to tell me if there is an earth to chassis wire or give me a diagram of how this is ment to work please.

Thanks people need this urgent. i have seen cars with 4 wire but need to know where they run to.

the car is running really rich and splutters on boost up and it is reading no manifold pressure

there is only 3 wires coming from the harness but 4 at the pin end. i dont know where it goes to so i cant fix it until i know

Have you made sure that the 4 pin plug is meant to have all 4 pins connected and not 3 with a blank in it. At least you will know if your missing a cable or not.

i cant see in if it has 4 pins or not, hence im trying to find a wiring diagram or if someone can check theres and let me know.

I really don't understand.... how can the harness only have 3 wires going to the plug but the plug has 4 wires

So to be clear the original sensor connector had how many wires going to it ? And how many pins did the connector have ?

And now you have lengthened it you have more wires ???

Did you use a different connector or just cut the wires and solder some wire in between ?

i bought the car with a running fault for cheap and someone else has done this wiring. now i have looked at it i have come accross this wiring issue and its really bugging me.

1/there are 3 wires that tee off from the throttle sensor
2/these were extended
3/the end of these is a connector with 4 pins (3 wires connected) (1 not connected to anything)
4/cant find a diagram to confirm its needed or ment to be wired into the others
5/HELP PLEASE??? Going mental with it

Just searched on google and it appears that you have three wires in a 4 pin plug -

1wire is +5v
1wire is ground
1 wire is signal to ECU.

I also have a AUQ so will have a look tomorrow when I'm home for colours into which number pins.

can you try get a picture of your plug incase one wire is located wrongly on mine.

Cheers graham

you seem pretty clued up. do you know if jabba sport re-maps are any good my car has apparently been remaped by them but i have no proof and wanted to try contact them but it never gets through ive sent an e-mail also but no such luck. is there any way of finding out if its been mapped apart from a dyno?

I'll try and get a pic of the plug, I have my car in bits at the moment - whats the colours of the original wires that lead to the plug ?

I'm not that clued up ;) just know how to search the tinternet to find what i want :p

As for the mapping - they may keep a list of cars they map - failing that once we get the map sensor working you can check to see what boost pressure it's running with (that'll tell you straight away if it's higher than stock = remap and happy days :D)

Ok, original colours are brown/blue, pink/green, pink/grey

Let me know if they match yours and which pins they go to.

Cheers

Ring jabba, they are crap with email as they are generally busy. Ive had a custom remap on the standard turbo and theyve also remapped again and fitted a bigger turbo and they know their maps.

The "MAP sensor" is in fact two sensors, one for pressure and one for temperature. However, the AUQ engine doesn't seem to use the temperature sensor.

Wiring should be

Brown/blue - pin 1 - earth
Purple/green - pin 3
Purple/grey - pin 4

3 and 4 both come from the ECU. One will be sensor power; I suspect 3, as this is shared with the Hall sender.

Pin 2 is the output from the temperature sensor.

muttley which way is the connector sitting to get the 1-2-3-4? or should it be labeled?

No.1 is at the flat end, no.4 at the rounded end of the connector.

Sensor supply voltage should be measured between pins 1 and 3, 4.5 volts minimum, 5 volts max

I've found the inlet temperature sensor - on petrol cars it's downstream of the throttle body. Makes sense, as the pressure drop over the throttle plate will cool the air down. Hence the need for it to be separate from the pressure sensor. On diesel cars the sensors can be together as there is no throttle to worry about.

I've changed the map sensor, maf sensor, spark plugs, checked all boost pipes. So it's going into seat for the recall on ignition coils tomorrow. So hopefully it solves things.and it passes its mot
