Hello,

I've just bought a 2024 V2 and the auto start/stop isn't switching the engine off, but I can't work out why. I previously had an Arona and I used to get a pop up message on the centre screen that told me why the engine was still running. I can't work out where to find this on the Formentor. The manual just says it's in the driver information system but then doesn't say anything else.

Anyone know where I can find this? I thought it might be in vehicle info, but can't see anything

Thanks!

Hi,

If I understand properly, you're not the first owner.
Do you know if it could have been disabled with VCDS?
I know some VAG owners really hate S&S and have it disabled electronically.

In the infotainment system select "the car symbol" > Assistants > Smart Assistants.
When the symbol appears in orange
the system is on and will stop and
start. When the symbol appears in white the system is off.

Bear in mind it's been very cold so if you are only doing small journeys it may not switch off the engine as takes longer to get the engine up to temp.

I believe OP is trying to find some sort of pop up message display when the system doesn't stop the engine and tells why it hasn't stopped the engine.
Which I don't think I have seen in any car with this feature. I might be wrong.
As mentioned in above post that's the understanding. Page 214 onwards in user manual explains all the conditions.

I do have this kind of message on my Skoda Superb Mk3, though. At least, it a symbol (A with a rounded arrow, all crossed out).
I don't have the exact reason on the screen, but if I click on the Info button, it says 'S&S is unavailable'. Most of the time, probably because the 'start voltage limit' is not reached.

Update to Start-Stop activation/deactivation (this applies to my VZ2 facelift car and is different from the earlier screen grab)...

When it's off it's on - and when it's on it's off! Crazy, but true. I've owned the car 9 months and only just realised it.

If you look closely at the online owner's manual, (A) means that 'Start-Stop off' is activated, meaning it's OFF ...and (B) means that 'Start-Stop off' is deactivated, meaning it's ON.

So, off is on and on is off. And don't tell me, war is peace, freedom is slavery and black is white.

In other words, as the manual says, when you switch it on, the system is disconnected and when you switch it off, the system is connected!

Do the people who designed and passed this nonsensical arrangement need to stop smoking the baccy? I believe maybe they do.

Edit: I wonder if this may have been the root cause of the o/p's problem? Like me, he thought it was switched to working when it was in fact disabled?

So does your car when first switched on have the stop/start already deactivated, or is it just the same as before and will operate till you deactivate it. (Note I did not use on or off as not to confuse the situation further) What a farce you could not make it up.

Good question mate. Simple answer is that it remembers the last setting.

Originally (and for ages) I didn't realise the car had start/stop function - presumably because it was disabled when I bought it. When I had the PV4 update done I reckon it must have reactivated itself, (by default ?) because it started working when I was sat at traffic lights. So, yesterday I went into the infotainment menu and mistakenly thought the start/stop was off, when in fact it was on (not seeing the 'OFF' word in the symbol).
Today I was surprised when it activated itself at a junction, so I had a look in the online manual - revealing the above load of nonsense that's truly worthy of Spike Milligan.

My name is trew. How do you do?
You'll see me round your town.
Sometimes with my Start/Stop on
And sometimes wearing a frown.
And when it was on it was off,
And when it was off it was on,
And when it was only halfway on, he needed a new battery.

The stop start system had stopped working in my VZN during the winter and to be honest I didn`t realise until I noticed my tracker was displaying only around 12 volts then the battery at approx` 3 years old was accepting a charge from my smart charger to about 12.4 volts then losing it after a short time if I wasn`t driving the Formentor a decent mileage every day as it was also not holding the charge for long, also the stop start would work a few times then stop altogether, I do have a replacement battery but as the electrical load is not high at this time of year I`ll swop it when I get chance.

To be honest I wouldn`t miss the Stop Start system if it failed altogether!

There are two adaptation entries in 5F (Infotainment unit) related to that feature. My previous car was a '18 Leon with those entries enabled and it was showing the start-stop reasons. Now I have a '25 Cupra Ateca with those entries disabled from factory and it doesn't show the reasons, like yours.

Those entries are:

Vehicle function list BAP --> Start_Stop_Reasons_0x27 (currently set to
Not Activated)
and

Vehicle function list BAP --> Start_Stop_Reasons_0x27_msg_bus (currently set to Databus Infotainment)

You may consider activating that first entry using a coding-capable diagnostics tool like OBD11 or VCDS. Also keep in mind there may be other entries which needs activation or change, for this coding to work.

Also, if your car's control units have SFD2 protection, and a 2024 car is likely to have it, then coding by yourself is out of the question and you would need outside help, from a professional who knows what they're doing.

Good luck,
Serdar

Edit: After I posted my reply, I noticed I was replying to an old post, sorry for that. But anyway, I thought it might help someone interested.
