Hi ive been looking on the forums and just wondering if you could tell me what MAF is.
Some of the thing people are saying that are wrong with there car sounds similar to mine.
Thank you

It's the air flow sensor. It is usually attached to the side of the airbox, before a corrugate pipe carries the air into the engine. It also has an electrical connection to it.

Depending on the fitting, you might only see about an inch of it, the rest of it will be inside the airbox and the pipe.

Here is the unit as fitted to V5's;

(by the way, it says 10v engine, but its the same part for the 20v)

my car picks up fine but seems to run out of puff after 4000 rpm. could this be the maf sensor???????

Quite possibly. The MAF dictates how much fuel is put in, if the signal is bad the ECU takes a 'best guess'. This usually results in just rough running at low revs, but as it gets faster, the problems get worse until it finally stops accelerating. Higher revs need a precise amount of fuel and air to run right.
