Ok my friend has given me an old laptop to use
It's only 64MB Ram and a pentium 2,but has got both serial & USB.
What's the best cable to get from Ross-Tech?
I know they do a KEY & HEX CAN but will it work on this old laptop as it's not that fast?

On that Laptop, I would recomend one of the serial interfaces - KEY-COM or a HEX-COM+CAN. The KEY-COM will work with all OBD-II compliant models from 1995-2004.5 (in US it will work up to 2005.5). The KEY-COM is an enthusiast grade cable but allows access to all modules in the car. (With a 2x2 adapter, you can work all the way back to 1990 models)

If you are thinking about working on more recent model years, the HEX-COM+CAN is the interface for you. It has more robust construction, has faster electronics built into it, and supports the CAN diagnostic bus which the KEY series does not support. If you need to work on both an '03 and an '06, you need the HEX series cable.

With the old laptop, I would not try USB. It most likely has USB 1 implementation and USB 1 was not very good for live data.

It's got to be Key then as the laptop is only Pentium 2(233-366)

Mine car is 2003 so this should be fine for me

Delivery to the UK from the states is usually 2 or 3 days, sometimes faster. You can also purchase the KEY-COM from one of our UK distributors listed on our Distributors page.

If you buy directly from Ross-Tech, we only ship by FedEx and the cost is about $35. You may also have to pay the tax man for anything coming into your country from us.

I Have just bought a new lap top and i am looking at installing VAG COM for my Seat Cupra 20v T (2000 Reg) X.

I have been to http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/ however i do not know which application to download?!

Can onyone help? and is buying a USB lead from Ebay safe?

Check with your cable supplier. They should tell you the VAG-COM version with which their product will operate. It will either be 311.2 or 409.1. None of the aftermarket cables work with the recent releases of VAG-COM. The recent releases require a dongle interface which contains proprietary Ross-Tech hardware and firmware.
