This question has probably been asked loads of times... But is there a deal on for SCN members?

I don't really want to go down the route of buying a cable off ebay and running on the shareware - but I just can't afford the $249 (£135) for a genuine cable and software licence (for an 03 plate LC).

Or have I simply lost the plot and I've priced this up incorrectly?

I paid about £200 for Hex-USB+CAN, I got copped with some import duty too, which is always the risk!!

It is well worth every penny. Especially every time I read another thread about Ebay cables not working!!

There was a group buy going on Audi-Sport I think but that was just the cable and no license.

That's exactly why I want to get the genuine thing, cause I want full funtionality with no agro.

I just think Ross-Tech are missing a trick my not offering a dicount price for SCN or other VAG forums. If it was cheaper I think most people would pay the extra. Surely it's better to control the market than have it full of crap knock offs from China(etc).

I give it a couple of days to see if Ross-Tech notice this thread - if not I think I'll drop them and e-mail and see if some sort of SCN group buy thing might be possible.

If we offered a discount to the members of of any particular forum, the members of every other forum on the planet would clamor for the same discount for themselves as well, at which point we'd be giving a discount to just about everyone.

That's why we have an "every day low price" for enthusiasts, which includes an interface which acts as a dongle, free updates, and includes full support via e-mail or on the phone if you care to call us.

Notice that you cannot buy anything comparable for any other brand of car for anything close to the price that we ask for a compete VAG-COM system?

And we do offer a lower-cost alternative. Buy a 3rd party interface and use the free shareware (limited functionality). Yes, you may go through some aggravation getting it to work. Time is money. ;-) Then if you want the full version, you can register for $99. Later if you should ever get a newer car which requires a current version of VAG-COM and one of our interfaces, we'll give you full credit for the $99 you've already spent.

Folks, developing a product like this does not happen for free. Over the years, we've bought four different factory scan tools (totally legit, anyone who's willing to spend the money can get one). These are not inexpensive. We spend a pile of money leasing the latest cars to test on (necessary to make keep current versions of VAG-COM compatible with the latest cars). We have a real office which obviously costs money to rent. And we have a few employees who do expect to get paid. ;-)

Uwe - Thanks for the quick response, I assumed that you guys would be busy and probably only check posts on SCN every few days.

BTW I just noticed that my last post could be taken the wrong way (I suppose that will teach me to try and post threads when I should be working)... Sorry fella!

Can you confirm that the KEY-USB ($249) is the right interface for a 2003 LC, just checking because the main usb page states it might not work with 2003+ cars. But when you check the linked list of cars it shows 2005+ Mk1 Leons.
