Story so far...

Car went to garage, garage said that HT leads needed changing, i said ok.

Garage phoned, said it wasnt HT leads it was an Engine Transponder, i said ok. They changed it and everything was fine. They did say HT leads could do with changing at some point.

Driving around one day and engine management light came on (still running ok), so Instead of going to garage to be ripped off i decided to change HT leads. Changed them and car now runs a bit better than it did. However engine management light is still on.

So got a obd-II cable, and got the vag-com v409 software.

Hooked it all up fine, ran the cable connection test and it came back fine. allowed me to use the rest of the application.

Went into Auto Scan, selected Ibiza 6k for the chassis. Scanned and it came back with nothing.

However as said the engine management light is still on, how do you turn this off if everything is ok?

Or have i searched for the wrong things?

hmm, well i didnt fully know if the HT leads where the problem or not. Just dont want to take it to the garage for them to say something else is wrong. Plus they charge silly amounts to just look at it. Hence the reason i bought the cable.

Can you not just clear the light. Heard somewhere about leaving the battery off.

Well i believe that although the options page said it was connected the cable's led doesnt light up and when doing scanning it just says

try 1 --- wait a few seconds -- try 2 --- wait a few seconds -- try 3.... and so on for each controller.

Also if you do a manual scan of a controller it says the above and then a message of no response.

Will have to try a different laptop with XP

Cant get the cable to connect anyway, changed the ports. Disabled modem etc.. and still nothing.

Really annoying.

The cable doesnt even light up now either.

Need to check the ebay page but the page said it works with VAG-COM v409.1.

Problem being i have only tried it with Vista and Windows 2000. Also tried it via Virtual Machine as someone said they had it working but again it doesnt work.

I just recieve no response from controller and the blue LED on the cable doesnt light up.

What issue could the car pose?

Is it worth disconnecting the battery for a few minutes?

Hardware wise, i suspect the cable. Annoyingly the laptop i have doesnt have a serial port hence the USB-Serial cable. Just strange how when i first connected it the light came on but everytime i reconnect it nothing happens.

Could be fuse(s), aftermarket radio, dead interface... etc. But then again, the vendor/seller should give you that sort of support and explain to you why it doesn't work.

But hey, this is another typical case of "you get what you paid for". ;)

Finally got the blue LED to light up when i plugged the car in, i had to use an xp machine.

Problem being is i still get "No Response From Controller" when i search on the Engine Controller.

I have checked the ports and they are fine. Not sure if i should have the ignition on before i connect the car to the laptop?

This the process i take:

1. Install Software
2. Plug in cable
3. Install drivers
4. Plug cable into car
5. Turn on ignition
6. Test vagcom - it comes back saying ok
7. Run engine controller test and it comes back with "No Response from Controller" after 4 tries.
