 The fact you're posting on here means you're on the net. Oh noes one cable bit the dust probably.

Should not have the net active when using the software and should have your hosts file locked down incase it goes on automatically.

You opened the software and ran the test to find the correct com port / usb?

What operating system is on the laptop. XP, Vista, Win7? I asusme you ran through the installation CD and the driver was installed. Is is a serial or USB cable? You should be able to open the software and check the setting USB/Com1 etc.. without the cable connected. Search through this VAG Com section for similar help or things to try but if you had the net on or tried to update the software while connected it's probably trashed your cable. I think there is a way to recover from this but it's very long winded and requires a lot of registry hacking. No doubt there is a post somewhere containing the info.

I honestly don't think that matters. What is downloaded is what kills the cable when it is used.
Somone else will confirm but I think that's £35 down the shitter m8 :(

I don't think that not genuine wire will work with the latest software.
Uninstall it, remove all VCDS software files and install but don't run software update.
Disconnect from internet and connect wire.
You should have instructions how to change port etc.

I had one ages ago but it worked whenever wanted so binned it and got genuine one.
After few issues with my and family cars (all vag) the cost of it looks tiny comparing to what I would have to pay at stealers.:D

Like Slepy says you will have to uninstall all VCD's on your PC. You can only use version VCD 10.6 this should be the software that was supplied when you bought the cable.

It will also ask you to update every time you you open your software and use it, just click the cross in the corner and use the software as normal.

I have just bought the cheap version of vagcom and have installed the 11.11.3 version on windows 7.
Connect your cable to your pc, Click on OPTIONS select USB and then TEST.
It should then come up and say interface found, if it does select SAVE.
You have to have your cable connected to the pc for it to work.
11.11.3 version was on the disc I recieved I did not download it from updates.
As everyone says make sure internet is disconnected.
