Bang goes the theory on the revs making a difference. It's squealing like pig all the time. Just wondering if there is a definitive test before I go and get a new pump/ebay special.

You're right about the wee rebel brain cell though. One way to test it would be to put a pressure gauge in the line out from the pump. Another way to test it would be a drag gauge/torque measuring device like a drill driver with a break torque seting. Drive the belt, then turn the steering wheel and measure the torque value at the ps pump pulley.

Phoned eurocarparts today and they say that there are two different types of steering rack put into the cordoba of my year. How can you tell the difference between them to know what pump to order? Ta very much.
The part number's on your pump, just google it, it's way easier than trying to figure out what's what. My cordy on a 2000 plate was the same, there trw or some other one, can't remember the details though but yeh, I just googled the part number.
I took the pump off the car and took it to eurocarparts for them to see if it was a match to the one they had in stock. It wasn't, the offset was different. So had to put the old pump back on the car and retension the v-belt.
I had a look at ZF's website and took the educated guess that my pump has a 52mm offset on the drive flange face to pump body and ordered one from GSF.
I got the pump and the belt has started to slip badly on the pulley again,lasted about 400 miles, so managed to get a couple of hours today to get it fitted. Sorry there aren't any detailed pics but I only had a couple of hours to get it in and get ready to go out a message. Mum was up for tea tonight too. Sure you wanted to know that useless piece of information.
On a more technical note. I had to take a file and put a chamfer on the edges and remove some material from the mating faces to get the pump to fit in the pivoting bracket.

Your right mate, darn nuisance. Maybe I'll get my scheduled 20,000 miles between retensioning of the belt instead of less than 5,000 between new belts. What's the new bracket? Do you mean one that would have an automatic tensioner or something to that effect?
I'm with you. The bracket might put the drive wheel for the ps pump in a different place so that the ribbed serpintine belt with as you say automatic tensioner would do the work for me. I'll have to look into it. Drawings and pics don't do the trick though. I'll have to get my head under someones bonnet.
Well, 100 or so miles later and the gerbals have cept back under my bonnet again. I'm seriously feeling like getting this donkey put down.
I'll try my darnest to get car washed and photographed and uploaded tomorrow. I think the stance of the car may have something to do with it. You'll see what I mean. Also when I turn into a corner/bend it feels as if the car is trying to turn in more than the amount of steering input applied. The car turns in then feels as if it shifts in to the turn a wee bit more. Just a thought that it may be connected.

Suspension and steering angles bud, that daft two bolts to hub carrier set up is a pain in the root to get right. I had loads of hassle with it but should've just travelled to a proper company that knew what they were doing.
And it's Gerbils, the little squeaky things lol. I had a couple of them when I was younger, well when I say I had them what I mean is I looked after them till the cats were ready then they ate them lol

Just to update. The power steering seems to be holding up now with the likelyhood that the fluid could have been airated with the first bleed through. From what I can tell the boot switch has finally gave up and the rear springs have collapsed again.
Not that it matters as she could very well be leaving. or confused . com doesn't prepare you for love hate relationships and farewells.

Update, sort of, she's staying because I love her too much to let go of her and because I'm a miserable sod and loathe the thought of giving a car with lots of new parts to someone for a grand.
Only problem is the restoration is going backwards instead of forwards. Some "person" has managed to crack the plastic backing on the wing mirrors. The fellas next door deal in scrap washing machines and stuff and the damage is on the side facing their direction but who knows. There are no scrapes or dents or anything else, only damage to the mirror.
I have old school paint which is a good match (got the bumpers done) but it's still a nuisance and a mismatch could be more noticeable at that level plus both mirrors will need done.

P.S. I might even get to t-cut and polish and put some sexy pictures up of her. With me not on the bonnet, lol.
Update, sort of, she's staying because I love her too much to let go of her and because I'm a miserable sod and loathe the thought of giving a car with lots of new parts to someone for a grand.

Finally got a few seconds peace today to get picture taken of my white warrior. She didn't get a wash or polish and the mirrior casing is still cracked but sure. So don't be too harsh on her.
Boost gauge from the dash is in the audi at the minute.
Not much room in the back for the kids.
It's a bit of a love hate relationship but I have a wee soft spot for her. I think she's a cool wee car with a lot of potential. I'm going to have a look at getting a smaller steering wheel as I keep knocking my hand off my knees when staging, not very often, and can just about get my feet safely on the brake pedals. Shouldn't really be smiling at that should I?

It's edging more towards hate at the moment as I heavily suspect a blown turbo. Need to check tomorrow. There is manifold pressure still. I can hear exhaust blowing out somewhere and it's running wild lumpy.
