Very Annoyed

Hey guy's,

Just got back from a lovely holiday in cornwall, great driving roads down that way.

Not had a single problem with the car the whole week, infact it ran perfectly and even got a few second looks from locals and 1 guy in an onvi cupra r on the a30 as we queued in traffic.

Anyway, yesterday afternoon i parked up out side a mates house, and we were using his van to pick something up form my house. When we get back to his, as he is trying to park up (not much room and a real pain to get around his close) his foot slipped off the clutch and the van lurched forward.

Guess what it connected with! Pushed my car 2 foot forwards. Damage doesn't seem too bad, bumper is split and pushed in and the drivers side rear quatre panel has been pushed in by the bumper so the tailgate is sticking out a bit.

I'll get some pics up when it stops raining, but anyone got any ideas on cost for a replacement bumper and spraying (assuming panel pops back when bumper removed).

It's not going through insurance as neither of us can afford the increased premiums etc.

Try the for sale section of SCN to pick up a bumper or evan ebay.

seen bumpers go for about a 100quid and about 80quid to paint!

The quarter panel would be hard! Any pics?
you may be able to pull the quarter panel out or may need filling follwed by a respray.

Honestly for a LCR rear bumper you'll be £250 + VAT and £150 to paint
The ones on Ebay STAY AWAY FROM!!!
These are fibre glass and will not fit very easily
I'm going to be £450 inc vat for rear bumper and fit
Get your mate to get his hands into his pockets
Why not claim against your mates insurance, it doesn't cost him anything if he's NCB protected.....If he's not its not your fault

it does cost him:
1. excess
2. and also your premium does go up.
its a misconception to think that if you have protected NCB your premium wont go up.
Admittably it wont increase as much as without, but you will be assessed as having an accident and thus have a higher rating and premium. The fact you have Protected NCB means you keep the discount, but its a discount based on a higher starting premium.

However, im not saying he shouldnt cough up, even if he was helping you out.
I think the repair could cost a fair bit, the rear panel could be a pain.

The excess part doesn't come into my insurance when someone else is claiming against my insurance only when the insured person claims ie me for my car
This might not be standard just what I know from my insurance
and who care about his premium!!! Protecting his premium doesn't get your car fixed.
His mistake, his cost, mates or no mates

Well he's agreed to cough up what ever it costs. Been to local body shop who have made a quick assement at between 500 and 750. New bumper needed, the beam that runs behind the bumper, and anything else they find tomorrow when they take the back end apart and give a full quote.

Mates a young ish driver, who's excess is nearly £600. Body shop are going to give full quote and photo's tomorrow, but from quickly pulling the boot seal off can see that the back end has been pushed in by the bumper bar.

It's not gonna be cheap or quick to fix. Will all be genuine parts, none of these cheap copies on ebay or anything. will get picks up tonight, and keep you all posted.

if u rear panel is damage to the point of requiring mounting to pull which i hope u dont, you could be lookin in the region of £800 hopefully its the bar and the bumper which shud cost in the region of £500 depends on labour rates to be honest,

must be something abt onvi rear bumpers just had mine wacked too! waiting on directline policy holder reporting accident so i can get the ****er fixed

I'm not RobM, I'm Rob_M. And it;s not onvi, it's Red and standard cupra not the R.

Well, got the actual quote now from the body shop and it's a grand total of £775.00 inc VAT.

This is because a previous owner fitted a tow bar and has since removed it, but left the iron's in place and not put the rear bumper bar back on. This is what punctured the bumper, and pushed in the rear quatre panel and the panel below the boot.

I'm considering having the iron's removed and the bumper bar put back on, which will only add £60.00 to the quote as the guy at the body shop said if it had been there, then it would only be the bumper and the bar needing attention.

Spoke to my mate who did it, he's ok with the price and going to get saving up fast so it can be back to how it should be soon.
