Very poor dealer service

Long story, please bear with me,
I bought my Leon 2.0TDi Stylance Sport on 28th July 2006. It is a fantastic car and I was very pleased with it, until the weather changed in October 2006, on wet days and frosty mornings I found that the windscreen would be OK when I got in the car but whenI started the engine and moved forward it would be covered with so much condensation that the blowers would not clear it (I waited 10 minutes one day and it was not even starting to clear) the rear view mirror mists up and there is condensation running off the chrome of the interior door handles.
Since then (18 months ago) the car has been in and out of the dealers, they have had it for a total of 7 weeks and have still to find what is wrong with it.
On frosty mornings there is sometimes more ice on the inside of the windscreen than the outside and I have to use a scrapper to move it.
The aircon unit was found to have a crushed pipe and the windscreen was found not to be properly sealed - both faults were rectified but the condensation problems continued.
I noticed that the sound insulation under the bonett had mould growing on it and the insulation on the bulkhead was hanging off with mould and a crystal growth on the inside of it, also, I noticed that the velcro type material on the top of the inside of the rear door seals is always soaking wet. I checked every Leon on the dealers forcourt and all seals were dry.
I wrote to the MD of the dealership detailing the history, gave him photos of the mould and two 10 minutes videos that I had made of the screen becoming impossible to see through and the blowers being unable to clear it, I stated that althoug the problem seemed to be coming from under the bonet that the rear door seal issue needed to be addressed and that my main concern is that as the car has had moisture in it from new and that with the mould growing behind the bullhead insulation - I am worried that moisture will damage the electrical components/systems at sometime inthe future (possibly when the car is out of garentee)
The dealership replied that they would have the car in and reseal the plastic piece at the windscreen edge of the bonett as that is their latest guess at the root cause of water ingress, they would also look at the door seals, replace the under bonett insulation, remove the bulkhead insulation, investigate how far water had penetrated, make good and replace the insulation with new(Phew! - still with me I hope as we are reaching the good bit!)
So, gave them my car 2 weeks ago and told them I would not accept it back without a written garentee that all faults were fixed.............. I phoned half way through last week for an update, the MD told me that as far as he was concerned the car was fixed and that he had used it during the last weekend to make sure I responded that I was not happy that he had used my car, without my permission, for a runabout, that I did not mind a road test but to use it to take the wife and kids shopping etc was not acceptable, he became rather terse stating he couldnt see why I was 'becoming objectionable' (his words!) as he was fully insured (your views please!) He eventualy offered to have the car cleaned/valeted and refuelled.
And finaly - I collected the car on Saturday, the door seals had not been looked at (The son of the MD - sales- and thier "master technician" both looked at the soaked state of them and agreed that there is something wrong)
The bulkhead insulation had not been looked at, the above gentlemen were both in agreement that this points to a potentialy serious problem for the future
And - Joy of Joys - The car was dirty inside and out with the fuel light flashing.
So to sum it up, if you buy a car from H*bin of B*ury and have any problems -They wont fix it
They will use your car as a runabout, get it dirty and use your fuel.
Yes, I did speak to the MD today, his response? that there is nothing wrong with my car, that his son and the "master tecnician" did not knowwhat they are talking about!!!!!!! and that that I go to another dealer!!!!!!!!!!![:@]
Looks like big words with SEAT UK and trading standards in the morning.[:@][:@]
Buy another SEAT? - I would rather remove my own B*ll bag with a blunt spoon !!!!!!!!!!
Forgot (in my anger) to include that
The dealer did suggest, during the 2 weeks they had the car, that if I wanted to change it they would offer me a 'special deal'. It was
They would give me £11000 for mine if I would pay them £16950 for a 57 plate FR, I pointed out that having paid £15550 for mine plus the £5950 they wanted to change, I would have paid £21450 to drive it away, that I could havebougt onefor far less than that when I bought mine, that I would have a second hand car and that I would have lost £4500 on a car that was defective from new - maybe all they wanted to do was sell be a car at top forecourt price and give me bottom book for mine (which is by the way immaculate, just 14k on the clock and unmarked) they would have made a few grand on each end of the deal. Callme a cynic but once I said all I wanted was my car fixed they lost interest.

i've had a similiar story with a Seat dealer in Manchester (am i allowed to say who?) and when i pointed out they were lying to me re my issues with the dpf i asked the guys name on the phone - he hung up! having spoken with the manager who could not identify who i spoke with also talked a lot os sh*t so i haven't been back since. on a positive note the guys and gals at jct600 in Leeds have been fantastic at dealing with me and my car (i can be an akward git, especially whilt having to pay for the dpf to be regenerated) and would highly reccomend them if you are nearby!

I have also got some spots of mould (1 large one about 2" across and a few smaller ones multipliing) on the on the sound insulation under the bonnet. mentioned it to my dealer (Advantage in Lincoln) and they are chaging it for me.

If you are going to use Advantage in Lincoln only speak to Steph on the SEAT service desk. This is a mutiple company dealership (Mazda Citroen, SEAT, Mitsibushi ++++) and the people looking after the other service desks are cr@p. It took me 3 phone calls to get an answer after the first two poeple said they would call back but didn't.

In future I will make sure Steph is working when my car goes in.

Hi mate,

Get on to SEAT UK straight away, the fact that you have these issues is bad enough on a new car but using your car as his own mode of transport is totally unexceptable!!!!!

I do know a decent SEAT dealer but its a far way from you. Good luck with it and keep us informed. Still cant get over their attitude!!

Hi all and thanks for the interest and support
I received a letter from the dealer today, he enclosed a cheque for the fuel and has offered to refund the cost of me getting it valeted, OK fair enough but what if I hadnt found out ???

SEAT UK are siding with him i.e. if he doesnt want to sort the problems out it is up to me to find another dealer and get my car booked in with them. I suggested that given that this car has been faulty from new that SEAT should collect it from me and bring it back fixed, they responded that they 'dont have anyone technical that is why they have dealers'

Trading standards, quite understandably, want all the details before they act, good job I kept the photos, videos, letters and emails:confused:

I suppose after 18 months of SEAT troubles a few weeks more is niether here nor there.

I will keep you posted.

I suspect What Car would take an interest given all the collateral you have. Try contacting them by email to see if they bite.

i too had a simular experience with the dealers i bought my 07 cupra from (coupers of st albans) had a variety of issues with the car ,MD of dealership so unhelpful and down right rude !!!! and seat uk standard answer is take your complaint to the dealers ,there accontable for there own business.......oh joy and thats from the manufacturer !!!!
so all in all ive now got rid of my loved o7 cupra simly down to lack of support both from dealer & seat uk ????? (now have mazda 3 mps)
really loved my cupra and the dealers are allowed to treat custmers like this !!!! surely seat should sit up & listen to customer complaints and pull the dealers into line ???

Hi If I was you I would report the MD to your local Police Station as he has technically Taken Your Vehicle Without Your Consent ! An arrestable criminal offence for which if convicted he could get up to 6 months custody and / or £1000 max fine.

Hi If I was you I would report the MD to your local Police Station as he has technically Taken Your Vehicle Without Your Consent ! An arrestable criminal offence for which if convicted he could get up to 6 months custody and / or £1000 max fine.

And I think any insurance the MD had could be null and void. As far as I know he would need your consent to drive the vehicle to be insured on it as well.

I just get the feeling SEAT might be fobbing you off mate. I noticed you said they claim not to have anybody technical. I have had e-mails from their technical department and also their head technical guy in the U.K was at the track day to answer any questions about technical aspects of the car.

Trading Standards sounds like the best route to me. Another option might be SMMT. Have a look at www.smmt.co.uk/consumeradvice not spoken to them myself but there was a leaflet in my car.

I'm not a solicitor but legally the dealer is responsible to ensure your car is of satisfactory quality.

I love my Leon, but have just been drooling at the pics of the bocanegra on the seat uk site & I would seriously consider buying one!
Having read the problems in this thread, however, I don't see how I can even think about another Seat, when clearly the dealer service just isn't there. My local dealer is the one mentioned in salopian's post and the nearest other is the manchester one mentioned by leonfr170. Consequently, my lovely leon will be replaced with another make of car
