I doubt you will see any increase in bhp more likely stay the same or decrease. I am all for removing the DPF though, the one on my 2.0 is always doing a regen haha

I know. After being outrun by a diesel Insignia earlier, I don't want any less torque. Poor outputs compared to competitors, rather than the current fiasco, have put me off another VW diesel. Plus the DPF.

Is not poor tbh the output is decidedly average. I can't comment on being outrun by insignias and in most cases even BMWs/audis as I have a remap but before when the car was standard it could outrun them so you should maybe look into that?
My 2.0tdi has around 195bhp and 310lb/ft of torque

I was being slightly unfair. After driving the 1.9 tdi in various cars for years, I was slightly disappointed with the 1.6. Having written that, perhaps it doesn't suit the Ibiza as well as other cars. Would love to get it chipped but is a leaser unfortunately so not keen to spend anything other than routine maintenance on it. I should have spent more on the 2L!

That's understandable! I would just get it done even if it's a lease, only cost me 300 for a remap and EGR delete.
Haha I would definetly recommend the 2.0 haha

I think when Seat send me the recall letter I'll just call them up and tell not to bother contacting me again as I run custom map software on my car. After all I'm under no obligation to return the car to them.

Exactly the same as I plan to do. I like my car the way it is so I am not changing it as it will probably reduce MPG so I don't want that haha

I'd be asking for compensation of some sort. Misleading you into buying the car with false figures etc. I'd be laying it on thick.

I think all affected VW, Seat, etc owners in general should be receiving compensation on being mis-sold a product, and all the costs incurred should be covered. ...but my concerns are different.

I did not buy the car for it green credentials and asking for compensation for a car I've had remapped and the DPF removed, I don't think would make me look too clever.

I know what you're saying, I certainly wouldn't be taking my car in for for the mod either. That's why you have an argument for some compensation. It's a no brainer.

My 1.6 is standard bar a cone filter, I bought it on finance so I'm waiting to hear what seat plan to do as my car is affected. I've read on the Web of possible buy backs and or compensation so if performance ends up being reduced or any other issue I will be aiming for my money back. I planned on a remap and dpf delete but thinking if they do buy the car back I'll buy a 2.0 diesel and mod that instead.

I've heard of planned hardware changes so I wonder what's in store.

Today's BBC article says the 1.6 engine will need a mechanical fix as well as a software fix :(

It's a real pain for me to get the car to the nearest dealer, and still get to work, so it makes you think seriously about trying to claim compensation.

You could get a loan car?? Something I'm sure they would cover the cost on in this case

Yeah, the article says loan cars will be provided, but the dealer is in the centre of a city, so I have to get in and out of the town at rush hour, and go through two sets of toll tunnels which makes it time consuming and costly.

You may be able to get your dealer to collect and return your car while leaving a courtesy car as replacement. Explaining your situation and inquiring politely sometimes goes along way and I'm sure they are keen to keep there customers happy on this issue.

Aren't there something like 400 thousand effected cars in the UK??

Thats alot of people going to be wanting a courtesy car when they go in for the work, on top of the normal people in there also wanting to use the same car(s).

I don't know about over here, but when Audi etc had that nasty issue with their ignition coils, Toyota seemed to be the one that was used for loaner fleets, which must have been good for their future sales!

They'll need to reduce NOx production since there's no Adblue SCR system in the exhaust to remove it. My (very basic) understanding is you achieve that by burning more fuel (with precise timing and dosage, possibly more than one injection per cycle) and increased use of EGR. Guessing the 1.6's injectors can't deliver that (whereas the 2.0 and 1.2 can).

Pop your VIN in the bottom of http://www.seat.co.uk/owners/diesel-engines/vin-number.html and it'll say if your car is affected, but AFAIK most 1.6 and 2.0 TDI 6J Ibiza's are affected. I got my official letter today.
