Who are these strange people who would drive an FR at 55mph on an empty motorway? My idea of taking it easy is sticking to a nice gentle 90 mph.

i do this trip every few months, at those times and the cruise control is generally set to 110...M5, 3am on a weekday, its never got anyone on.

I'd be having a word with your boss if you're only getting 15p/mile (and no lump sum). I estimate my TDi has a marginal cost per mile of 21p/mile. Fuel alone is over 15p/mile. And that's not including any fixed costs (insurance, tax, etc.). Income Tax use a figure of 45p/mile as a reasonable cost.

Even if you managed to get 35mpg, your petrol costs would be 18p/mile.

I would listen to your missus, 'n stick with a diesel.

Agreed - the mileage rate blows. I get a yearly car allowance as well but even so.

I set my cruise to about 60. I'm rarely in a hurry on a motorway journey, and my idea of fun in a car involves corners. Flat out on the motorway bores me, so I just relax at 60.

Roundabouts are a different story :D

I have an 06 TFSI Sport and I average 40-45mpg on motorways cruising at 65mph and around town, I get around 28-30mpg according to my trip computer, which is not bad for a 2.0L Turbo Petrol engine.
.

faster you go the less petrol used, so go for it :) (joke intended) but Cupra would be the better choice!

Realistically your MPG would be around 27-30 max unless you go 65mph on the motorway & 20 on the streets...

I get roughly 33-35mpg and that's a mix of motorway/carriageway/short trips etc. Plus some booting involved lol..

Drove 150miles last night and averaged out at 38.5mpg.

I'm happy with that :))
