Warranty

Hi, I've had my 14 plate Cupra 280 manual for about a month now. When changing gear, (mainly 1st to 2nd) it sometimes feels like a struggle to get into gear. It improves slightly as it gets to operating temperature but still "clunky". It only has 21,000 miles on the clock.

Also when gently accelerating in 2nd and 3rd it feels like the car is hesitating but with foot to the floor it is fine. Has anyone else experienced these problems? It is still under warranty so I'm going to book it in to be checked but will I pay labour for this? I'm guessing I will. If so, is there a lot of work in checking the gear box etc.

Thanks in advance

You might need your gear linkages adjusting, you'll have to pay £90 for diagnosis but if it's warranty work that is approved by seat then you don't get charged the £90.
They'll probably tell you nowts wrong with it or they couldn't find anything when checked and stick you with the diagnosis charge.
I find it difficult to get intermittent problems diagnosed and fixed as sods law always make it so when it's getting looked at the problem doesn't occur and soon as you pick it up to drive it home, the problem reappears :s

Have a look on YouTube about adjusting gear linkages, its actually not that difficult

Had my 2014 Leon's Gear Linkage adjusted (Cables) more like it
when it had its first service & it hasnt went into reverse gear accidentally ever since.
Never been as slick a change from 1st to 2nd tho, the MK1 was the slickest gear change in any car ive had & it was the 6 speed box much the same

If you nearly freewheeling or letting the car run on its own run off energy ie down a hill or even a slight hill when you apply the throttle there is a slight hesitation.
They all seem this way

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully if I take to to the dealers it is just the gear linkage that needs adjusting then.

This isn't when free wheeling. Happens on flat/uphill when gently accelerating. Like a small miss fire. Surely if it was miss firing though it would happen all the way through the rev range

I sometimes feel there is a slight hesitation when changing gear and the clutch is disengaged, I put it down to changing from a diesel car with loads of torque and so I'm not applying enough throttle to preserve the fluent flow.

My 63 plate 184 FR has a "notchy" feel gearbox - reported at 3 years still in warranty service. Dealer says no fault found!
My 50 year old AH Sprite has a better feel gearchange.
It also has a hesitation on pulling away as the clutch is let out. Again dealer says no fault.
My previous MkII Leon had a smooth as silk gearchange and no hesitations.
