I was interested in the N249 mod right, did a search, read a few posts and kind of worked out how to do it. Havent done it as of yet, but contemplating it, will probably break another 2 or 3 things in the process that wernt broke before, but hey ho.

Then i searched youtube, and low and behold, i find a car albeit a ibiza, with a forge 006 with blue spring ( which is what my remapped stage one cupra 180 auq has )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phUzw2sUUuc

Sounds absolutely wank ! its like having a large bumblebee fly past your face when your driving everytime you let off the accelerator!

My leon is making this exact same noise through the exhaust when i come off boost i can hear my forge tsshh as it dumps, or say if im cruising, hit revs where its about to boost then back off, my exhaust then barks for a split second, loudly?

Is there anyway to stop this? I had a stainless fitted last saturday (Cobra cat back resonated no baffle 6x4 rear box, toyosports stainless decat/downpipe) i thought it had upset the map or something and its booked into revo anyway?

How can anyone think it sounds good, im cruising along, purrrr, oopsie went over a certain amount of revs BARRRR goes the exhaust for a split second, everyone looks at me like prickkkkkkk, like id done it for attention or something when i hadnt.

that does sound a bit off. i have a toyosport downpipe and de-cat with a non resonated race tube and a universal backbox 3 x 5 oval and it sounds nuts but its a bit loud at times but its consistant. im running a 007 in reverse so my dump valve is a loud chirp.
i will have to do a video of it sometime. i know many people will find it too loud and i personally do but im not bloody changing it again lol.

Lol sounds like a mate who had a volvo turbo thing, he wanted to make it like a straight through exhaust but had this really awkward square box that the pipe went through at an odd angle. He took the box and emptied the insides out and welded it back up. You could hear it farting from miles away because the flat parts top and bottom of the box were flapping lol. That was hilarious :D

lol i dont entertain cutting and welding box sections. simpler and easier to just replace the pipe lol. i only wanted to go non resonated myself cos the cupra auq 180 is so quiet standard and i wanted a bit of grunt but ended up with a bit more than i expected.
ill just have to make sure the power matches the sound now.

No it's not my way of doing things either but it was funny, I was falling about lol.

And yeh, there's nothing worse than a car with good grunt having no poke, just need a balaclava :D

So any ideas why mine barks when i hit certain revs then drop revs again? mine starts boosting at just under 3k, and boosts solidly up to near on 5k, but say if i was crusing at around 2.5k and it went up to about 3k, started boosting, and then i backed off, id hear a faint dump but the exhaust would bark really loudly, does the same if i rag the arse of it, itl be a certain volume cus im ragging it, but then when i change gear barks really loudly.. dont mind it when im hagging it but when im just cruising and it randomnly does it, its a tad annoying/embarrasing, people think im blipping the throttle for the fun of it !

not really sure. maybe its some form of vibration in the system causing it. either way its not a normal sound. and i dont think its anythiing to do with the map. if it was more consistant and went up with the revs then it would seem more normal but when its at a certain rev its a bit annoying.

also if your running a stock ko3s turbo you should start boosting at around 1500rpm and trail of at around 5k 3k start boost is usually big turbo territory. have you got a boost gauge? because you should be able too hear and feel the turbo befor 3k

To be honest mate. i dont know jack **** about the car, i bought it 3 weeks ago. the guy i got it off didnt know jack **** about it either, he said the guy he got it off was the guy who did all the work on it.

All he knew was it was stage one 225bhp remapped (from a 180 auq usual cupra engine) but no printout, told me the car was standard, got it home, had a poke around, found 006 forge d/v, coilovers, some sort of roll bar on the front, and loads of other odds and sods, had the standard exhaust on, but it came off real easy when i got the cobra/toyosports kit fitted, CAT light never came on either, so im guessing it had another exhaust on it that was previously taken off? No boost guage on it, its did my brothers 197bhp AGU golf turbo off no bother, aswell as a same 180 auq cupra same as mine but standard, and it was close calls with a genuine LCR that i had some fun with down the lanes but i got him on the bends, hence why im looking forward to 5th april, cus its one quick little car thats been full of suprises so far ! shes getting dyno/healthcheck/diagnostics, i just want the exhaust to stop barking like it does ! Does shift tho !

Turbo begins to spool around 3k as i said, up to around 5k, i can hear it whistling at lower than 3k but it doesnt do any difference to how the car moves or accelerates, when you hit that 3k mark and plant it, all hell breaks loose, ill get a video tommorow night on the way home from work down a private road near where i work if i remember! be a mobile phone one tho ! :)

interesting. maybe where its been mapped and with a claimed 225bhp it can be a aggresssive stage 1/2 map which could explain a boost spike at 3k. i would hazard a guess its this boost spike within the map thats causing this bark in the exhaust. im the same as you really. just getting to know these engines and im almost ready for my stage 2 which should see 240bhp approx. if i remember ill do a video of mine standard with just a cold air induction and similar exhaust to yours and a 007 in reverse.

Thanks mate, whats the advantages of having the d/v reversed? by that do you mean swapping the 2 larger pipes around on the d/v?

It really is aggressive on boost, its all quiet and humble but anything above 3k revs just rips your head off, i cant drive it with the traction control on cus it just kicks in have to turn it off all the time, its done a set of lower arms already, turbo seals are smoking too, but will see what revo guys say on 5th and let the power curve from the dyno do the talking !

Ive only fitted the decat, res cobra system, non baffle 6x4 rear box, pipercross panel filter to it, i dont like big unsightly cones in the engine bay prefer standard, would be nice to hear it dump louder tho !

running the dv in reverse actually looks more like how it should be. the boost pressure pushing the piston from the bottom rather than the side. i cant see the logic in the standard way. and yes just swap the 2 large pipes over simple job but both sound completely different.

I too had wishes to hear my d/v better - so (and at the risk of getting hounded by the none drillers, lol) I drilled my airbox  - the induction and d/v sounds are great - but still looks factory fresh when you pop the bonnet.

Yes you will take in hotter air - but it bothers me not - mine runs fine and I love the noise!!

Its nothing to do with the map mate, my lc180 does the same noise,i have a longlife backbox fitted before i got it mapped the other week and it still makes this noise at around the same time, i have a toyosport decat /downpipe going on this weekend so will see if that will make a difference, i was thinking it might be where the standard exhaust system was so restrictive but if you have decat fitted already i guess it cant be.....

WHat colour spring should i have? yellow i believe? Chris@forge told me yellow so i checked and its turquoisey blue colour, so i pm'd him yet got no response? Where is best place to get a yellow spring? Why would mind have a blue spring in it?

Mine didn't do the barking thing with the standard system on, but does now with the toyosports decat/downpipe, and cobra back system.

You want the softest spring you can get away with, ideally green or yellow. A blue is very stiff so the pressure needed to activate it is high. When the valve closes it slams shut creating a pressure wave which hits the turbo... think slamming a door and your ears popping or turning off a high pressure tap that creats a thud in the pipes if turn off quickly. A lighter spring opens and closes the valve slowly enough for the pressures to equalise and then theres no pressure wave.

If its a forge valve you can get springs directly from them. :)

Thanks, ive just been on there, they list 2 springs, one being around £12.50 inc vat then another which looks identical which is £23.50 inc vat? No mention of model numbers theyl fit either so i emailed them.

I get flutter dump when the engine is cold ( i dont drive it hard when cold i either let it warm before pulling off or pootle until the temp starts rising but have heard it) but the moment it warms it returns to the usual hissing sound, really cant wait to get it down to revo so the guys who know what theyre doing can look over it and sort it out, cause i feel its not running to its best and i think with the many suprise mods ive found on it its probably got others that i don;t know about, it seems whoevers done mods on this car has done the right ones, but not properly, ie forge d/v but wrong spring !

Deffo worth spending a few quid and getting the car checked over by a decent vag tuning garage. At least you start from a clean slate. Ideally someone with dyno or well versed with vagcom to check fuel ratios and leaks etc considering the smoking zorst.
