Water Pump Noise

Hi folks

My 1998 1.4 (APQ engine) has developed an intermittent whining noise. It sounds to me like it is coming from the water pump - I opened up the cam belt cover to try to locate the noise.

It doesn't appear to be using water but there are some pink "deposits" round the pump which makes me think that it could be the water pump on its way out.

Is this likely to be the case? Should I get the pump change asap or could it last a week or so?

Its due for a cambelt which I was going to do next month, I am just wondering whether or not I need to get it done in the next day or two.

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Get the Cambelt and water pump done straight away and I wouldnt even drive it only to the garage.

Good spot by the way, that pink stuff will be dried coolant which I think is the bearings going on the pump going causing it to leak and whine.

Thanks for your reply.

When I stuck my head under the bonnet, the noise was definitely coming from inside the cambelt cover. So being of an inquisitive nature, I popped the cover off & it was fairly obvious what is going on there when spotting those pink deposits!

It's booked in for Monday & not going to be driven.
