anyone bother with trying to get some weight off the car? i know it makes alot of difference but it would have to be major stuff if it was to a large scale.

only thing i can really think of is loose the spare wheel and shot a can of tyre weld stuff in instead as big steelys weigh a bit

anyone done anything else?

i got rid of all my rear seats/parcel shelf/shelf supports and rear seatbelts. also took off most of the factory sound deadening out the rear. i have no spare wheel (just a can of tyreweld) i left the carpets in and overall my car is over 80kg less. the difference it made on the road was significant! it will now dash from 0-60 in 7.5 seconds and i can out-brake my mates s14a 200 sx with it's hooooge 4 pot brakes!! and then there's the cornering! oh yeah...i also get 40mpg at 70 mph![B)]

it's well worth doing if nobody really ever sits in the back ( i mainly did it cos i got fed up with getting nobbled for taxi duties[:@] cos i'm usually the one there who doesn't drink!) it's not really much louder. the road noise is still acceptable and now somebody else gets to be taxi for the night!!:whistle:

weight saving in a 1.4 five door?

Come on mate, do u plan on racing people in the street cruising championship?

another great way to save weight is run the car with a ff engine and take the standard one out........

how about making it more stremline buy sealing up the creases where the rear doors are, and then also you can strip the rear out

its a 1.9
and no but a big heavy car, get some weight off it better mpg and maybe a bit more speed as a bonus.
plus the brakes are shite and less weight would mean better braking

if it's the 1.9 tdi (pre pd engine) then a guy at jabbasport has one in a passat estate fitted with a lorry turbo and will waste a well tuned scooby poo!! just do that mate!!

It wont be a PD engine in a MK2 beeza

But yes, less weight = faster car.

SDi? I don't think anything beyond cutting the car up will make a noticeable difference I'm afraid

pick up time!

yeah its a salsa 5dr 1.9
im thinking guvoner mod will be the best i can do really but no one seems to have done it on here.
guess the spare wheel gone will make a little difference
