Yes... another clutch thread I hear you wince

My remapped pd150 is starting to show signs of slip and just wondered the best course of action to cure it. I'm not made of money, but I don't really want to cut any corners either. I did think about just replacing the friction plate, but then thought I might as well do the whole thing at once.

I'm not the most knowledgable on this so would like advice on where to go next....

1. Which clutch kit? Helix, Sachs or Spec or some other I don't know about? I'm running at around 310 ft/lb and want a bit of leeway just incase I decide to mod a bit further. I was maybe thinking along the lines of a stage 2 spec kit?

2. Flywheel? Do i go for a new oem DMF or to a SMF? (i'm aware of the side effects you can get with a smf). Would a G60 flywheel be a good choice? (i've read the lighter eurospec g60 isn't really upto scratch for dervs so would the 22lb version be better?)

Any help would be appreciated and ideas of prices for flywheels would help no end too!

thanks in advance peeps! :help:

Unless you are not having trouble with your DMF why replace it and unless you intend going hybrid turbo i wouldn`t even think about getting a SMF. Just stick with a Sachs or Helix organic drive disc and pressure plate and forget about Spec if i was you as Sachs and Helix have great customer service and based in England so if you do have any problems parts can quickly and easily be sorted. I say this even though i use a Spec clutch myself.

well, i'm hoping my flywheel will be ok as its only done about 1k since the remap and i've not been too harsh.

I agree with the customer service being handy, but the spec units are a damn sight cheaper from the limited info i've found. Will the spec stage 2 unit bolt straight onto my original flywheel?

what faults come with the dmf, anyway? i dont want to be spending anymore money! £580 for the sachs set up,£33 for the thrust bearing from gsf

its acase of cost over customer service for me....

I can get a stage 2 spec clutch including shipping from the states for £300! The same place also does Sachs power clutches for about £400 shipped with a new G60 smf (they claim it won't bolt on to the std dmf). Not sure what route to take tbh.

essentially single mass is lighter, so you get faster engine revving. On the downside you get rattles and quite a harsh clutch feel. I don't care about either of those 2 downsides and love my 9lb aluminium flywheel to bits. The spec stage 3+ clutch is also awesome. Finally found a clutch I can't break (I hope  )

this is the one i'm looking at, I mailed them to check if it would fit the leon pd150 but they weren't sure (as they aren't lucky enough to have them), so I just need to clarify it will first..

My clutch and smf cost £600 (circa $1200) and I got it shipped cheap from a contact in Maine, for around £40 I think. My clutch and flywheel are "made for each other" so it was simply a case of unbolting the old flywheel, bolt new one up, stick clutch in and bolt up the housing. No other mods needed to be done to fit my clutch setup.

But.... It's a bit extreme to go for my clutch on a stock car. I think the stage 2+ with the 16lb steel flywheel but be a better halfway house. :)

Hi, sorry for thread robbing but had an prated clutch fitted months ago now and i find it difficult getting the car in and ut of 1st somtimes, i was told the clutch may need bleeding but its been done 4 times and it still keeps happening, any ideas? Somtimes its really hard to get in and out to the point where i feel i need to useboth hands...i dont i find that leting the clutch out then back in again normally sorts the problem but when its stuck in gear in traffic that can be a problem as its still pullng slightly with the clutch pedal fully pressed!

I get that too sometimes, although never had to use two hands to jolt it out of first. I just think perhaps the clutch isn't 100% suited to TDI use, but I love the way it performs under normal driving conditions, so can forgive it for a bit of stickiness in 1st in traffic. I tend to make a habit out of putting it in neutral, and pressing the pedal up and down a few times. Seems to stop it sticking for a bit. :)

Just get a Helix or Sachs pressure plate with an organic drive disc. Both are well provern and good quality kits with good quick backup if in the unlikely event anything goes wrong, also a direct fitment old for new.

any price guides on what to expect , best place to go , are these just std clutches or handle more power

also is itbest to replace the flywheel @same time or not really needed

cheers

andrew

Bought mine from JBS last year plus an o/e thrust bearing from SEAT - cost about £450 for both plates and about £35 for the bearing.

I can't fault the organic SACHS clutch really after its settles down (the stink at the start is quite worrying but it goes after a couple of weeks)

Why go SMF? unless you want mega torque or your DMF is knackered then why bother.

My DMF is fine with the stage 2 map in place.
