Hi,
You'll have to forgive me if this sounds like a noobie question or has been posted before but I am a novice at this Diesel thing.

Just ordered our first Diesel car to be delivered in a couple of weeks, an Ibiza FR 130 TDi, and been looking at the filling pumps and see there are now upgraded versions of Diesel such as V-Power and Ultimate.

Would I get any advantages from using the better quality Diesel over the standard product, not talking just power but also engine cleaning and lubrication, less smoke, better running?

Also could there be any detrimental effects of running upgraded Diesel on a standard 130 FR, i.e. pre ignition, retardation.

I just really want to put the best available in the car from new to keep it in tiptop condition and as I said before know little about the black art of Diesel fueling :D.

Cheers,

Colin.

Yeah iv heard that millers is fantastic stuff to use..£10-ish for smallest bottle whichg is 500ml and will treat 500litres of fuel, if your buy it directly from thier site its got an £8 shipping fee on unless its over 15kgs...ebay have it though if you just want one bottle to start off and see how it goes....
http://www.millersoils.net/1s_store.cgi - click on the automotive retail range then fuel treatments

its all swings and round abouts, some will say use normal stuff (me as well) some will say use the top range stuff, its been discussed many times before, have a read back through the TDI section to find the previous topics.

I've never noticed a real difference using either millers or BP ultimate (never managed to get V-Power). Generally fill with shell standard diesel. (Not extra afaik, at least it doesnt say that on the pump).

V-Power is the way forward but you really do have to give it 3-4 tank fulls for the ECU to adapt as the first 2 it really makes no difference.

One similarity here is not many people use Supermarket fuels.

Shell for me, my local shell only sells Shell extra, so I bang that it with the Millers DPS4.

i use sainsburys diesel...personally think your all being a bit fussy using your shell and bp stuff..it all comes from the same place, refined in the same place..its not like were buying high octane petrol!!

I used to use BP Ultimate with a couple of shots of Millers when I had a fuel card. It didn't half shift, but then I left that job and lost the fuel card. :(

Yes it all comes from the same places and is refined in the same places. Its what happens to it afterwards that interests me.

Additives go in afterwards. For the price difference (not exactly mega bucks) I want the additives to clean engine parts etc, specially if I plan on keeping the car long-term.

If I was to keep swapping cars every 3 years or so I'd use the cheapest fuel.

so whats the thoughts of running till almost empty, filling with so called performance diesel and resetting the ecu...then running a few tanks...
would you see any real benefits..other then cleaning the injectors a bit maybe and just blowing out some cob webs?

tesco = runs like a bag o' spanners and lower mpg
BP = similar to shell but slightly less MPG and more expensive
Shell = best MPG, best performance and a garage at the end of the road!

Shell price matches the supermarkets as BP just does its own thing

i've used tesco 95% of time and then mix of shell, bp & esso and found all to be fine and they've all given about same tanks worth of approx 550miles so no complaints with supermarket fuel and no millers either.

Shell Extra with a dash of Millers is best compromise in my view.
Tesco with nothing added is cheapest.
Shell V-power is most refined and powerful but it aint cheap.

I'm tight therefore I'm mostly Tesco, sometimes Shell Extra (2p more than tesco) and on occasion a couple of tanks of V-Power!

Same round here - Tescos is relatively expensive/middle of the road rather than cheap.

I use SHell Extra with the single doseof Millers. I dont think the Millers makes any performance differencebut it makes my engine run smoother with less soot! I had to put a small amount of ASDA fuel in teh other week when the Shell was closed and my car didnt like it much!

V-max - never used it - whats the point of buying an economical Diesel then paying a fortune on fuel???
