A newbie here.

I'm a CAD Technician who worked for the international airports in Cyprus, designing and updating their aircraft parking zones. Also measuring the amount of rubber laid on the runway in one of the most expensive Skoda Octavia's in Europe. When bought in 2009 it cost €120k euros.

Now back in the UK doing CAD contracting work for a multi national online retailer.

Interested to know why that Skoda costs 120k

Its the vehicle that costs that much due to the specialised measuring wheel and equipment in the rear that gives a friction reading of the runway asphalt by putting a stream of water out of a 500 litre water tank where that back seats would be and then transfers it to the user computer on the dashboard.

This is to ensure that the runway is suitable for use during wet and cold weather. It is the equipment that is the main expense.

Absolutely Nothing.

Just jacked it in after 36 years with the same firm of Global Security Consultants.

Retiring in your mid-50s is highly recommended... unless you can do it earlier of course :)

I work in IT. I do enjoy it but I'm not going to lie, as I'm growing older the more I'm yearning for something less structured and more creative. But that's what happens, when you're young everybody tells you to get and education and have a stable life... Then you get it and you feel cheated.
Totally agree.

Im a marine engineer hence not knowing much about petrol engines. Used to playing with large diesel engines :).
