what gearboxes will work with a 16v?

hi ,, new to this forum ,, need some urgent info on gearboxs please

just bought ollie clarks old seat ibiza cup car reg {p983 ovv}

it has all parts except a gearbox ,,

i have to have the car ready for an event in 2 weeks time ,,

i have no experince with seat cars , but could yee tell me what gearboxs

will work with the 20 16v seat engine

either vw or seat , and which model and year to

,, all help greatly appreciated

2.0 16v ABF engine mates to the 02A gearbox - same as Golf3 16v and VR6.

not to many mk3 golf gti gearboxs lying about the west of ireland though ,,

will the 020 or diesel gearbox fit ,,

dont really know anything bout these engines of gearboxs ,, just need one to make it
go ,, is the 02a a 6 speed box ?????????

02A is 5 speed.

Any 02A box from mk2 golf 16v, corrdo, mk3 golf 16v, vr6.... but they all have different ratio codes!!!!

The one on the Ibiza 16v is CDA.... you can see this code stamped on the gearbox which is left of the selectors and down from the rubber inpection for the clutch.

This ratio/model code also lets you know how the output flanges fit to the diff..... found this out while trying to fit my peloquin diff.

ASD Golf mk3 Diesel will physically fit but if you think the standard box has a long gearing in it then you'll be crazy to use it as it's hellishly long geared

it isnt any stronger to be honest just the ratios/diff are different and are way way too long for rallying sorry

i have a standard 16v CDA box here somewhere lying about but will need looking at

been apart and casing welded to patch up a hole and was changed as the sloppy gearchange was doing my head in and i could'nt be arsed to strip it again

mk2 Golf GTI is an 020 box, mk3 Golf GTI 16v is 02A

but both the 020 and o2a will bolt straight in with no mods ya ????

Nope...... 020 is rod change and 02A is cable change, if you fit a 020 you will need to change the flywheel, clutch and the method it uses to change gears.

Peloquin Diff is £670 with fitting kit...... make sure you give them that 3 letter code. I brought a new on from a member at club gti for £540 and turned out to be for a older 02A so I had to change the flanges that connect to the diff, the oil seal and remove the green cap on the box.

The diffs that you can get for the Ibiza is more a ATB diff than LSD

ASD diesel gearbox currently - only any good for long cruising distances in all honesty as it's only just on tickover @ about 75mph but mines done all of 20 miles in 9 months so ill get back to ya soon with some actual gear speeds

unbolt the 2 bolts for the cyliinder and replace it with the right angle adapter thing the ibiza uses just dont forget the operating rod as well

straight bolt in swap on mine

so much so i stripped the hydraulic kit out a mk3 golf to see if i could make a conversion guide to go back to hydraulic as the box was originally

box end is easy as is pipe/fluid etc but pedal end still in progress as im still drilling
