What headunit?

Right, the time has come to change my standard head unit in the car and I am not really sure what to go for.

I want one that can play MP3's and connect to my phoenix gold amp and JL sub. (Front speakers still to be decided upon).

I have had a look at Alpine 9853r and 9813r, pioneer deh-p7600mp, kenwood KDC-PSW9527 and JVC KD-G301

Anyone had any experiance with these?? Advantages/disatvantages of them, or offer any suggestions.

Cheers
Paul

Have you got a rough budget in mind? Have you seen the pioneer "BT" ranges, Bluetooth, so it can be paired with your phone (if its got bluetooth obviously) and used as a handsfree kit, i would probably go for one of these bluetooth heaunit, i think they are such a good idea

4v pre outs are better tha 2v. if you got a higher output from the pre ous it makes the amp operate at a more ideal level.
cheap headunits will be abot 2v maybe less, although you can buy an inline booster to give you up to 10v... althoug it really doesnt mater too much unless youre really nto accurate SQL.

girlfriends had a sony one fo a long time, doesnt seem to ave given her any problems

I have this one... http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=11783&taxonomy_id=25-121

Its cheap to buy £100 (eBay shops), plays Mp3/WMA, has a very good built in amplifier, has the pre-outs you need, basically does all the basic things very, very well indeed, and best of all (and the reason why I bought it) it matches the Leon dash almost perfect and has 'VAG Red' Illumination... perfect match.

One thing I am impressed with on this unit, I always buy Pioneer (just like the sound of them) and my other previous Mp3 units took a little time when flicking through the folders and a little gap between tracks, but this one plays almost instantly as you insert an Mp3 CD and it plays tracks from other folders etc.. with no gaps (even using the same Mp3 CD's as used on previous stereos), well impressed.

do most of the hu's now have direct sub controll?? So I can turn the sub up or down without effecting the other speakers volume?

Not sure about other makes, but all my Pioneers have had direct sub control.

It seems to be on most head units spec sheets these days.
