What is this in the engine bay?

Hi I have a seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI and it kept making a ratteling noise and brought it to a seat/VW/Audi specialist and they couldn't find anything, it started to get worse and then I found this part was loose and kept hitting the metal. I put a doing there (don't laugh haha) to stop the ratteling but the screw that kept it there has worn away and loctite and gorilla glue still allows movement so it still rattles slightly. Just want to know what it's called before I ask to get it looked at

Hello there,

I presume your ECU is it you're talking about is not clipped in securely, and I'm guessing is slipping/moving down out of it's plastic holder/cradle retainer ?

Holder/cradle retainer
Part number 6Q0 906 507

The above item is made of plastic and is in a triangular shape, which will be attached to bulkhead via 2 or 3 retaining clips or screws,
plus it has 3 large clips to hold ECU in place,
one large at the back on the left and two smaller ones at the top and bottom.
These can become brittle over time or weak especially the bottom clip, and allow the ECU to drop down and hit the air filter box or the inner wing/strut area.

Basically where you've put the sponge is between the back of air filter box and ECU.
ECU is short for Electronic Control Unit, which is basically the computer brains for your engine.

Hope this helps
Si
